“Excellent for rest and relexation”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

My partner and I took a two week holiday here, having booked through First Choice.

The hotel is very remote, being located within a large banana plantation right next to the ocean. If you are looking for a complete "switch off and relax" holiday, this is an ideal location.

The hotel itself is clean and well maintained with nice bedrooms with excellent bathrooms. Check in on arrival at the hotel was fast and well organised for saying three coaches full of guests all arrived at the same time.

The location is very hilly with lots of steps and steep slopes. However, at check in we were offered porter service who took our luggage to our room.

The buffet dining was excellent, and each day their was a good choice of freshly prepared dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Every member of staff we came into contact with was friendly and helpful, especially Lordes (I think her name was) who worked most days in the poolside pizzeria.

My only gripe is that service behind all of the bars in the evening was very slow. Most evenings there was only one or two members of staff behind the bar, which just was not enough. One evening I waited 30 mins just to get two beers!

All in all though, this is an excellent hotel in a beautiful location, with (on the whole) great service.

The hotel itself is very well kept and clean. The pool area with 11 pools was really nice and spacious. It was not hard to find a sunbed at all and there was plenty of room for everyone. I went with my sister and for us the downside was that it had only 1 restaurant which was buffet and everything, including getting your own drinks at dinner and getting your own coffee/tea at breakfast, was self service. This meant dealing with a cue of people every time you wanted a drink. There was not enough staff in general which meant a long wait to get a drink at the bar. It was a very nice hotel but because of a lack of choices for dinner like a la carte restaurants, and the fact that you had to get yourself drinks in the restaurant, I can not rate this as a 4 star hotel. The buffet food was so-so and after a week we were sick of it. There was one tapas restaurant which was only open 1 evening a week but they charged you 15 euros per person and you had to pay for all your drinks - again not very good for a 4 star all inclusive hotel. We wanted to go try a local restaurant but you are so remote and have to pre-book taxis both ways, we decided not to bother. The hotel and pool area was also very noisy due to all the kids and babies.

Hotel was lovely and would definatley reccomend it to others.
The road from the airport was a bit scary but was ok we made it!! Haha.
Only thing for us was the way the hotel was so secluded, on the other hand it was completley relaxing.

The rooms were really nice but the beds were a little hard.

The bar drinks were very good and the food was fantastic. They had a different theme every nighy which was also great.

We would definatley return.

In a nutshell yes go there!

I checked trip advisor constantly before leaving the UK but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived – hence the review.

Arrived at the hotel at about 9pm on the Friday, after a lovely journey on the coach, (nobody got sick, as others have suggested!!) nice views. 95% of the plane was headed to the La Palma Princess so as others have said just go straight to dinner.

The hotel and grounds were huge and nowhere ever felt busy. We went for a run each morning around the perimeter of the hotel, which was about 2km. The hotel is rather hilly but didn’t cause us any problems (apart from lugging the cases back to reception on the last day).

You could easily get a sun bed at any time of the day, there was never any need to get up early and reserve a bed. We chose to sit by the warm pool most days as it was close to the bar, a toilet and wasn’t too busy. Everyday we pretty much got the pool to ourselves. It was a little cold in the mornings but was perfectly fine by the afternoon. The pools are clean and well maintained. There are plenty of lifeguards around throughout the day too.

The food was great from our point of view. Reading others reviews I really can’t see what others are complaining about. The theme nights were great and there was variety even for the every fussy – plain pasta and chips every lunch and dinner. The bread table was a lovely touch, many different types of bread, along with just normal white and brown slices. Desserts were great, cakes, ice creams, fruits – always something with a banana.

The pizzeria made a nice change to be waited on, yes there was a wait!! People have complained about; not being waited on, being waited on and it taking too much time – make your mind up. Pizzas were lovely as was the special burger (burger bacon and fried egg). Ice creams in yogurt pots were nice also and in a few different flavours. Could pick up bottled water and ice cream from 12:30 until 6pm at your leisure. Could get a sandwich from the Coco Loco bar, but there were very basic. We went to La Choza (late breakfast by the pools) only towards the end of our holiday and I feel we had missed out! The bacon was much better here and you could also get an omelette and fried eggs to order. The filled croissants were lovely too – custard and cream filled (but didn’t help the waist line).

During the day there was plenty to do, Archery, Pistol Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Darts, Ping Pong, Water Polo, Beach Volley Ball, Aqua fit and Yoga type stretches. There’s also Mini Golf for 2 euro’s a day. There’s a very basic gym there also which isn’t air conditioned.

From the evening entertainment we attended it was to a good standard. There is free Bingo a couple of nights a week, which we took part in whilst waiting for the evening entertainment. We saw the Chinese Acrobats, the Buccaneers and the Grease show. The animation team also do a disco for the kids each night for 30 minutes, it’s the same music every night but I’m sure the kids don’t mind!

The drinks included on All Inclusive suited us just fine, yes the cocktails are pre mixed but they make a lot of the presentation. The mojitos have fresh mint, a lemon and an extra splash of rum on the top. The beer is Estrella and on tap for you to help yourself at the Coco Loco bar and the Pizzeria and in the restaurant at lunch and dinner. Cava is available at breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the evening there is a bit of a wait for you to be served, but your on holiday – relax. 5 minutes isn’t a whole lot of time to wait.

During the two week stay it was my boyfriend’s birthday and without being prompted they sent a bottle of Cava to the room along with towel swans and flowers – a really nice touch for us. We also heard of couples getting a bottle just for returning to the hotel.

The room was nice and spacious. The bed was a queen-size which was nice. The room had a small fridge and TV. The TV had about 30 channels, with about 6 in English – but your on holiday – get out and enjoy yourself. The safe is 2 Euros a day. The bathroom is a good size with a bath and a double shower. The water pressure is great and there’s always hot water.

The WIFI is 6 Euros a day which does only work in reception – but most UK mobile companies on charge you £2 a day to use your normal texts minutes and data, so just do it that way.

The only problem we really had with that the staff didn’t speak much English – I don’t speak Spanish – but many of them didn’t even acknowledge you – especially in the main restaurant.

The weather did get a bit cloudy on a few days – but that’s hardly the hotels fault.

We didn’t visit the spa or go on any of the excursions as we just spent the two weeks relaxing. We had a thoroughly good time and would definitely recommend to others

Room Tip: Block 6, as close to reception and near to the pools

We are currently on a two week holiday and were tonight told that any family with children could no longer dine on the terrace area which is featured in all the promotional pictures. We were made to feel like second class citizens because we had children in what Thomsons promote as a family hotel. The hotel manager is apparantly unavailable to speak to us, but can speak to the receptionist by phone !!! We will see what the Thomson rep says tomorrow. But so far a nice hotel spoilt by poor management and as ita stands nor a damily friendly place to stay !

there are a lot of flies round the whole resort including all eating area's. Twice there was a dead fly in the milk jug at the outside La chosa restaurant where breakfast can be taken if you desire. You sit and eat your breakfast over-looking the sea. I also witnessed a dead fly in the butter in the main restaurant. However, apart from the fly problem everything else was first class from pools to bedroom and bathroom. Hotel generally spotless and all staff are polite and helpful. One thing that could improve your stay would be if the hotel could provide a courtesy bus to the small beach which is 1.2km away (40 minute walk). The walk is up and down hills and hard work when it is hot. Beach well worth a visit to get a swim in the sea and there is a small cafe there that sells food and cold drinks.
This was out second visit and we would go back.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor with sea view - it is well worth the small extra cost.

What a great holiday to a super hotel. Yes, it isn't 5 star, nor city hotel luxurious, but for the price it's excellent.

I was a little nervous about the journey to the hotel from some of the reviews but unless you suffer badly from travel sickness or vertigo, it's just a windy journey with fabulous views and in no means hair raising. Arrival at the hotel was, as pre-warned, very busy but you are able to leave bags and go and eat dinner. Arrival time is 9pm, so hardly late, and a detour of 30 minutes for dinner while on holiday didn't upset us by any means. When we went back to check in, no queue.

We didn't pay for a sea view, so we had a quiet room in block 6, which is a short stroll to the pool and main hotel areas. Room is large, aircon quiet and adequate for a holiday abroad where I want to be outside as much as possible. My only minor complaint was the twin beds which were incredibly firm, a little more luxury here would be nice!

The hotel itself is definitely quiet, but while this may be a negative to some, we have been delighted at the lack of crowds and the fact we can wander down to the pool at 10am and easily get sunbeds right by the pool! What a great change to the overcrowded hotels were a 7am get up is required! The weather is such that the late evening sun is still really hot, so people continue to be around the pool until gone 7pm. The pools are the hotels best feature, absolutely huge and never crowded. The deeper pools are a bit colder (but great for cooling down from sunbathing) but the shallower pools are so lovely and mild by mid afternoon. I cannot rate them highly enough! Weather wise, it does cloud over at some point everyday, but it's a mountainous island and it's still really warm with plenty of sunshine each day.

We have found the food to be very nice, lots of choice and a theme every night. It's not gourmet, it's a tad samey, but pick and choose and you can make a good meal. It was astonishing watching some people eating a plate of plain pasta (and complain that the pasta is coloured green), or chips every night. You can't please everyone I suppose! The puddings are an odd selection, mediocre at best but lots of fresh fruit if that takes your fancy. Breakfast was yum, La Choza has fresh cooked eggs, really crispy bacon and a view and a half. Lunch at the pizzeria is ok, hotdogs, burgers, pizza served at a snails pace by staff who seem somewhat confused by waiting service in general. I know this frustrates some guests, but we've been happy enough sat in the sunshine chatting while we wait. Most drinks are good, help yourself branded fizzy drinks and bottles of water. Cocktails are alright and I've found the local spirits very drinkable with coke or sprite. Bar service can be quite slow, but order two drinks at a time and it's fine.

Evening entertainment is not our thing, so we took a stroll on the walkway around the hotel or sat and played cards with a few drinks in the lobby bar. Daytime entertainment is available around the pool and 3 excursions a week. We decided to hire a car at €30 and did a whistle stop your of the island, fitting in a walk round Santa Cruz, a hike in the national park and a trip to Tazacorte and it's black beach. We found this better value for money than the excursions. The views from every single road on this island are amazing and well worth seeing.

All in all, our opinion is of a great hotel, great facilities and a perfect un-touristy all inclusive! And those complaining about the lack of wifi, a great excuse to put phones down and enjoy time with your family, other half or just a good book! :)

My recommendation, do your research on the hotel and la palma. If, after that, you still think you'd enjoy the hotel do not hesitate to book!
