Another fabulous week, great service, location & what everyone else has mentioned in other reviews!!!!!!!! Fab, we will be back!!! If you are looking for a chill out holiday in a fab location with great Greek food, sandy beach & all the other things that make up a "chill" holiday you cannot go wrong.

Nice pool but as we prefer the beach we headed every day to Mikes Oasis beach bar , my second home from home!

We stayed here for a week in August 2008. We were given a really nice welcome and shown to our room after a welcome drink in the bar, the room was clean, spacious and well equipped. Throughout the week the high standard was maintained, whether for delicious breakfast, snacks, cleaning or other. The family also runs a restaurant in the centre of Georgeoupoli, where the food is excellent and the wine is free for guests of the hotel.
We also ate in and were impressed by Georgias Kitchen.
The beach at Georgioupoli is fantastic -7.5 km of mainly sand, fairly shallow and safe for children unless it is very windy. Sunbeds are mostly free if you buy drinks from the adjacent bars.

Lovely modern small complex, spotlessly clean, run by great people! Great beach and a good selection of tavernas serving lovely food. Everyone makes you so welcome. Would recommend these apartments to anyone as long as you aren't looking for a lively party holiday. Will definately be visiting again in the future.

Kokalas Resort is an amazing find - part of me just wants to keep this secret to myself!

The place is run by a family and they have a taverna in town with fantastic, really tasty authentic Cretan & Greek food. Rula who looks after Kokalas is terrific, very friendly but also very organized and efficient - she's more than happy to help with any request and goes the extra mile to make it's all taken care of.

The actual apartments are beautifully decorated and finished to a good standard. We stayed in a ground floor apartment which turned out to be wonderfully cool (no need for air conditioning even though temps hit 100F during day) and as a bonus had a big terrace area outside with a lovely daybed. Perfect spot for lounging and reading out of the sun.

The pool and pool bar/snack bar are just the right size and again beautifully decorated. Rula told me they redesigned the bar area about 2 years ago - a friend who's an interior designer helped, and it shows.

Beach swimming is great here too as there is something for everyone. Miles (literally) of sandy beach. In the morning the huge bay was very calm. In the afternoon when we were there, the wind and waves would pick up - perfect for those who like more "surf" with their sun & sea.

Most of the beach has sun loungers/umbrellas for about €5 (for two) per day although is room to just put a towel down here and there. More so if you walk up the beach a bit (and lifeguards all along the way).

The sea water is slightly cooler and less salty than normal thanks to all the fresh mountain water rivers that empty into the sea here.

There's loads of great tavernas along the beach although our favorite base was the Tropicana, which looks, well, more tropics themed than Greek. I had a massage right on the beach (people walk by offering them, and they are very good). Further up the beach we saw someone had even set up a massage table in a little tikki style hut and they also offered yoga classes on the beach! I've never seen that before on a Greek holiday.

As for the town - fantastic. Loads of places to eat and drink in town. Try the bar at the top of the Princess Hotel on the beach for great view and amazing cocktails. Not what you'd expect e.g. Mojitos etc.! The Nicholas Hotel bar also does great cocktails.

Georgeoupolis is a great location as well for venturing out. For Chania I'd suggest taking the 'local' bus - it's about €7 roundtrip on an air conditioned, comfortable coach. The bus stop is just behind the town on the main road, a short walk from the hotel. You can buy tickets at the bus stop and Rula has a bus schedule and map. Last bus back was at 9pm although I hear it runs later in the high summer season.

All in all this was a great holiday and I'm recommending Kokalas to all my friends and family. It's a shame for Rula that XL went under as Kosmar (an XL company) represented a lot of her bookings, but with such a great place hopefully people will come back on their own (I will!)
