There is only good we can say about this hotel. We arrived past midnight (drove around 100 km from Heraklion airport - good base for exploring east Crete) and were warmly greeted by the receptionist. There was even a late cold dinner waiting for us that we really appreciated.
The first room we got, however, did not suit us - it faced the inner hotel area where we could hear anyone passing our window, maintenance stuff and other noises from early morning. Therefore, after first night we asked for the room to be changed - it was absolutely no problem! We got another one that was facing the hotel garden, which was perfect. The hotel consists of a main building and bungalovs in the garden, towards the sea.
About food was written a lot, there is a wide choice, I would say it reflects German taste (many German guests around). Everyone was helpful and attentive.
The hotel provides own sunbeds and parasols, for all inclusive guests they are for free, for half board they cost 8 EUR/2sunbeds+parasol/day. Organised outdoor activities are also possible - volleyball, petanque and so on - the animation team members kindly ask, and whoever is interested can join. There is always a place on the beach and at the pool, as the hotel does not support the "sunbed reservation" (nobody will place the towels on sunbeds at 6 in the morning, leaving them untouched until afternoon...) - and it actually works, thank you for that.
There is also a small supermarket on site and a village "shopping boulevard" with souvenir shops and taverns across the street.
The hotel provides free parking area and it is also possible to park just next to it on the street any time of the day.
Various evening entertainment is provided, either by local animation team or by external entertainers - we enjoyed especially the oriental dancers and the live band. For a small charge it is also possible to participate in the Greek cultural evening that includes BBQ.
There were a lot of mosquitos around, so take an insect killer.
The hotel is spotless clean in all areas.
Bottled water is provided, so you can take it when out for a trip.
There is free wifi in all areas, sometimes works better, sometimes worse - for me it actually worked well at the beach bar in the evenings.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed our stay and had a lovely room with great views. The buffet had different dishes every night. the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helped in every way they could. The pool side was great as when we were there it was never busy.

We choose the Eliros Mare at Kavros because of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor - previous contributors were not wrong ! This hotel is located on the beach side of the E75 National road. My wife and I were the only two off the coach for the Eliros and we were greeted by a young man who took our cases and led us to reception. The reception staff booked us in, fitted us with our 'all inclusive' bands after which the same young man took us to our room (101 - George Orwell eat your heart out - it was not a room of horrors !), a quick change of clothes and we were in the dining room for some much welcomed food.
If we had not been immediately impressed with our reception we were certainty more than impressed with the dining room, large and spacious with the option of alfresco dining. The food and service was excellent as was the attentiveness of the staff. We managed a quick 2 hours by the pool, feet up with a coffee in the lounge, a quick explore and then it was time for a shower and get dressed up for dinner. Understandably as we were on a very early morning flight and awake all night we were tired - but not tired enough to enjoy the delicious food on offer buffet style, lashings of wine or beer available at the table - the deserts you could die for - tremendous variety of Greek pastries and fruit - with all the yoghurt and honey you could wish for. The service at the tables was unbelievably swift, no sooner had you placed your cutlery in the 'finished' position your plates were whisked away. The staff were chatty but not overbearing, and English seemed to be their favourite second language.
The room 'servicing' was also excellent to a fault..... we were there 7 nights and the sheets were replaced three times as were the towels. The bathroom/toilet was kept very clean - the shower worked well and no matter the time of day or night there was constant hot water. The communal toilets by the pool and beach bar were also kept very clean.
We spent some time by the pool, again spotless with comfortable sun beds and large parasols. We did not get to spend any time on the very sandy beach except for a walk on the one day it was cloudy and very windy with quite large waves. The abundant sun beds on the beach looked just as comfortable with a substantial board walk from the hotel grassed area, which incidentally sported the beach bar, entertainments area and toilets. There was also a large children's play park, usually with a animation crew in attendance.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner - coffees and drinks at the bar - nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the Eliros Mare, always a smile and an appropriate greeting - Kalimera or Kalinihta. We cannot comment on the evening entertainment as we did not partake...... however the Sunday night BBQ and cultural evening is not to be missed. We understand the Eliros has a sister hotel - The Mythos - just up the road - has an equally good reputation. As we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay we would not hesitate to use the Eliros Mare again.

Room tip: Garden or pool view on upper floors main block.....

This was a bit of a last minute choice due to the cancellation of a previous booking. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the front of house staff, and shown to our room which was nice and spacious and over looked the pool area. Luggage was brought soon afterwards to the room for us. I required a rental car, so this was arranged through the front desk , usually there is a premium for this but on looking around after, I saw the rates were about the same elsewhere. There is a small charge for the room safe, but the aircon and the WiFi are free and worked nicely. We were half board so had to run up a room tab but this was less than 300€ for a week for two. We did splash out on the Metaxa and some very good local red wines for dinner though.
All meals follow a buffet style, but you can eat as much as you like, however we saw very little food being wasted, which is a change. The choice of dishes for breakfast was very good, all tastes being catered for, with very carefully thought out presentation. We managed to have a five course breakfast most days, the orange and mango smoothies are a little coarse but taste superb. For evening meal the selection changes each day, though there are the staple of pasta etc, and a special area for the kids with modern fast food. Not to mention a specific Cretan food selection. The restaurant staff were very helpful and willing to talk when they had the time, The whole area of the hotel was very clean, the sheets and towels changed every day. All the staff we there to make your stay as enjoyable as it could possibly be. Each day when we left for our car journey around Crete the staff would ask where we were going and advise on additional places to visit or where to be careful when driving, and on our return they asked how the day was.
We had a very enjoyable break at the Eliros Mare Hotel and have already recommended it to friends, it is a gem that us Brits have yet to discover, as most of the clients are currently German, Russian or French.
Lastly I would just like to say a simple thank you to the all the staff for making the holiday so memorable.
