“Fantastic fish”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

What a lovely restaurant. 100% recommended. Poseidon offers very fresh fish landed by the Poseidon boat.

You can choose your own fish and it is then simply grilled for you abd served with your chiice of side dishes.

The quality of the fish and seafood is second to none. The calamari was delicious... as was the snapper, prawns, mussels and everything else we tried.

The white wine was really good and the homemade cake was great.

Can't recommend this place highly enough. I know I'll wish I was back here as soon as I get home!

“Fantastic Fish Taverna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

This would be a very good restaurant in the UK.

Fresh fish, caught by the owner, barbecued wonderfully, eaten in the lovely setting of what was the family garden. Very friendly and knowledgeable service, they won't let you over-order, served with good wine and home-grown salad. And the chips are great too.

This is a fish taverna - no meat, but so wonderfully done. Usually chocolate cake and raki "on the house" to round off what is always a taverna we look forward to. Kala Orexi!!

“A must if you like fish”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

I always go here when I'm in Georgioupolis. This place serves perfectly grilled fresh fish. You go to the fresh fish desk and choose wich you fish, squid, lobster or shrimp you want. Sit down and drink wine and eat greek salad when waiting for the perfect meal...

“Finally a discovery! fresh, decent, thruthfull fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

Apparently this fish taverna is in Georgioupolis - between Chania and Rethymno - for a long time, kept secret by locals and tourists but it need to be exposed! Good things need to come out..The owners of the place are fishermen! They carry what is most fresh on that day from the local waters. We have visited 4 times and did so to ensure that what we were experiencing was not an accident or a by chance or any other unatural phenomenon when it comes to Tuna.
On the fist visit, the two of us, saw a smalll Med Tuna - apparently none stays for local consumption and most goes to Japan who conisdered it an even greater delicacy than the Yellowtail or Fatty Tuna..- good for the two us, but could not reinforce that they needed to be carefull and not overcook the fish and simply sear it! He comes back with "Maybe you want it only marinated?" to which our mouths dropped! We came back with "the fish is too small to fillet for sashimi" to which he replied "Oh no, I have a bigger piece which I can cut how much you want and cook it in lemon juice"....WE HAD TO SEE THIS. and we did! and it was tender, sweet, fantastic plain Ceviche a la Crete! We really did not want anything else! the bill was so decent, the service was so truthfully freiendly, we had to go back, hence the other 3 times before actually writting something.
So three days ago, we went again....after 5 liters of white wine (my only pet peeve when going to local tavernas is their inability to offer excellent Cretan bottled wine..somebody has to outlaw this bulk business), 1/2 a kilo, that is 1lb of Tuna cooked in Lemon juice, one huge salad, 3 large grilled Mackerels, a plate of the best Carp Roed Vaciar dip I ever had and dessert and Cretan Grappa at the end. The bill came to 91Euro, roughtly 120$ for four well fed and fully satisfied people. The tavernas sit on the back, not in the middle of the square, acroos the Police Station down the alley, smart, quiet like the backyard of a house, in Georgioupolis which is half between Chania and Rethymnon exactly on the highway. and you will not have to turn and twist to try to find it. It is ther gong between the two twons, get off the highway, park and look for their sign "Welcome to the Poseidon Taverna" Yes. go and forget anything else has to do with fish on Crete, except of course another one for which I will write about soon...
