“No Air-Con”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

I have stayed at the Scandic Glostrup several times because it is conveniently close to businesses I visit in the area. It is a while since I stayed there in the summer and I had forgotten that there is no air-conditioning. Although the windows open, the road noise on one side of the building means that trying to sleep with the windows open is as challenging as trying to sleep with the windows closed.

While I have experienced the occasional bathroom smell in this hotel (see other reviews) they have been not been that serious to date. I like the convenience of the hotel, the free wireless Internet, and the food has always been OK. Staffing levels mean that service in the bar and restaurant could be better, but on this trip I had no problems getting served.

If you need to be in Glostrup or Brondby and do not want the hassle of travelling out daily from a hotel elsewhere then you have a choice of either the Scandic or the Glostrup Park. I just find the Scandic easier. The newer rooms in the Glostrup Park are fine (the older ones are not) but in the past the WiFi signal was poor. The food is more fancy in the Glostrup Park, but I prefer the menu in the Scandic. Consequently, I almost always stay at the Scandic.

The Scandic Glostrup is an old hotel the decor, furnishings, bathrooms are all tired and in need of attention.
The beds are singles pushed together with very small duvets and the rooms are very hot during the summer.
The breakfast was OK nothing special simple continental.
The location for my work was good but I doubt it would work very well for people on vacation.
The Price was average.
I have stayed in many Scandic hotels and most are very good & Modern this is not.

Smelly, rundown rooms, loud noise in the hallways. Unable to lower temperature in rooms. Couldn't open windows due to noise on the street.
Interactive Tv didn't work.
The breakfast was terrible - cold eggs and bacon e.g.
Without a doubt the worst Scandic hotel - ever.

Stayed for one night for business trip on Sunday. The positives: check in was polite, efficient and very friendly and the free wi-fi which comes as standard with Scandic. The rest was average at best. The room was dark and in serious need of refurbishment but for one night was ok. The bed was pretty hard and uncomfortable and the bathroom had a strong unpleasant waft which I recall from my childhood as the "French drain" smell. It also didn't help that the bar closed at 10pm (20 minutes prior to my arrival) so not an ideal start either. For my next trip, I will certainly be looking elsewhere.

This hotel looks exactly the same as the one I stayed last night in Sweden. So the comments are very similar. The hotel needs refurbish, the carpet arer stained, the room simples and noisy. I did not sleep very well because of the noice. However the people at the reception were very nice. The manager was particularly kind and sometime this human touch makes the difference.

Room Tip: choose the room in the front, in the back there is a motorway

This hotel is located out to the west of Copenhagen, a little out of the way. The common parts of the hotel are very nice and modern, and the staff are polite and efficient.

The rooms however are in need of updating/renovation. There are a couple of things I find important while travelling on business when it comes to the hotel: the shower, and the bed. The twin-bedded room had two very small beds and the bedding was quite uncomfortable. The showers weren’t up to much and the general standard of the bathroom was poor and in need of refurbishment. On the plus side, the rooms were of fairly good size, but I would still only describe this as shabby 3-star, circa.1985 room – everything seems old, including the television set (sorry no flat screens here).

The other issue is that there is nothing much else nearby – this is almost the middle of nowhere. The train station is some distance away, so getting about is difficult if you want to explore, or even venture out for decent food. There is nothing, repeat NOTHING nearby. Thankfully though, the restaurant in the hotel is really rather good. Although a small menu, I was surprised at the care and quality of the food – I’m guessing by the style that the chef must be Italian trained.

If you find yourself here, get a cab to Gostrup train station and get to Copenhagen from there if you want to eat outside the restaurant - it's only a very short trip.

The reception staff were kind enough to provide some pizza delivery leaflets, so I thought I’d try them out, since I was getting terminally bored with the lack of variety in my diet. Anything, anything would do – I was thinking Dominoes or Papa Johns or some such delivery pizza would do the job. A word of warning – it seems that there are no major delivery chains in Denmark, only independent take away joints. It’s most common to find pizza and kebab takeways rolled into one, which seems odd coming from London. So, sifting through the leaflets, I managed to find a delivery company that had staff who spoke English (Big Ben Pizza if I remember correctly). The guy turned up about an hour and a half later – when I opened the door, there was a waft of kebab smell – he seemed to carry it with him. The pizza box stank of kebab, the pizza tasted of kebab, and my room reeked of kebab for the rest of my stay. Be warned – get out of the hotel and go to Copenhagen!

For a single night stay this hotel is just about enough. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is very good with cold meats & cheeses, bacon, boiled eggs and scrambled eggs plus lots of cold juice and good coffee. The room was disappointing with no air conditioning and decorated with the 60's in mind. The bathroom was a wet room and the shower wasn't very powerful. No need to bring your own stuff as the hotel provides soap and shower/hair gel as well as a hairdryer. As other reviewers have stated, there is an odd "sewer" smell when you are in the shower and the toilet never stops dribbling into the bowl though this is not really a distraction. There is also free wifi which worked very well with good speed.
The room seems very warm despite no heating being on. The windows are double glazed but you can open both to let some air in. This works fine except that the hotel is on quite a busy road and early morning sees juggernauts and noisy diesel buses running the route and this could easily wake lighter sleepers if the windows are open.
The mini bar is well stocked but quite expensive. There is adequate hanging space. I had a twin room but the quilt barely covered the bed and the pillows were small and not enough support. The mattress was very spongey and not very supportive but ok for one night,
Overall, this is fine for a one night stay but more than that would start to be an issue with the lack of control over the heating in the room, the tiny quilt and average decor..

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to avoid traffic noise at the front.
