As a regular and a local I always visited this pub whether it was for a drink or a meal.
However since Steve and Alison left the hearty has fallen from grace.
The prices - never cheap - have remained the same but you get less for your money. The roast dinner was poor: one small Yorkshire pudding and stringy tough meat.
There was only one veggie option for myself - a goats cheese tart which consisted of pastry and other ingredients placed on top; not what I'd call a tart.
Also the service was not up to scratch. They were noticeably understaffed and didn't apologise for the massive wait between courses.
The table next to us were complaining of a rude bar man also.
It used to be the best pub in Southwell but we'll now be moving to the final whistle or the coach for our evening drinks and god knows where for a meal

This used to be my favourite pub in Southwell. We popped in to try the Sunday lunch today for the first time since it has changed hands and my word, it has gone downhill.
The food, which used to be excellent, is now awful - chewy meat, one Yorkshire pudding in the style of a frozen Aunt Bessie's, a small portion of dull vegetables and weak gravy. Given that the food prices are pretty extortionate, we were left feeling well and truly ripped off.
The service was absolutely abysmal. It took ages to get served at the bar, and we were left waiting far too long between courses.
The table next to us also complained - it was their first time at the 'new' hearty too and they were as disappointed and angry as we were.
Avoid!

On our way to The Workhouse we called in for a snack and found the menu very inviting. My wife and I had fish and chips which were excellent. The bar staff were friendly and the food arrived at our table very quickly. We had a large choice of food and will return to sample more of the menu in the future.
