This b & b is run with military precision. You have to specify exactly when you will arrive, and you have to agree on which of four slots you will take your breakfast. There is no guest sitting room, and only one chair is provided in the bedroom, mainly because there was no room for another. The shower room/toilet could be described at best as 'bijou' and the sliding door did not completely close. Toiletries had to be laid out on the cistern as of the two shelves, one was well above head height, and the other six inches from the floor!
However, the view was lovely, the garden well maintained, the room was clean and the breakfast was excellent.

Management response:Responded July 9, 2012

We were somewhat surprised by these complaints as unfortunately the lady in question didn’t raise any issues about her room during her stay. When she was checking out we asked if everything had been ok and were told that it had!

However, in response to the points made:
You do not have to specify exactly when you are going to arrive, as I explained to the lady when she rang on her way here, apparently worried about arriving late. The booking was made through Frontdesk, an online booking system used by over 5000 hotels and B&Bs. The system clearly states that check-in is open between 16.00 and 18.30 and you are invited to choose an ‘anticipated’ time of arrival in half-hour increments or you can specify ‘not sure’. More than 200 guests have booked online with us and this is the first time anyone thought they had to arrive at an exact time.
Yes, we do offer a system of timings for breakfast (timings are agreed with guests), which is not uncommon with B&Bs, as we offer a range of different options all cooked to order and different timings ensure that everyone is served promptly. This is, after all, a private house, not a hotel and we do not have any staff.
No, there is no guest sitting room. As stated on our website, there is a summerhouse for guests to use in the warmer months.
There are in fact two chairs in the room (admittedly one is of the fold-up type), but we do accept that the room and ensuite are small. Both of these points have been covered on previous customer reviews on the online booking system and are there for all to see.
It may be helpful to anyone reading this review to see the previous positive review from KENBarrow-in-Furness, who recently stayed in the same room for 4 nights.

We’re pleased that at least the lady enjoyed her breakfast and the garden views during her short stay.

Recently spent 4 nights at Polgreen. The ladies who run the establishment Annabelle and Jean.are very friendly and provide extremely comfortable rural accommodations in a house with large gardens.Views from bedrooms of gardens and countryside are very relaxing.Little treats such as chocolates and cookies are placed in your room daily.Very competitive rates. An ideal touring base for Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan,as well as coastal resorts.
Nearby Polgooth Inn highly recommended for excellent food and choice of real ales.
Would have no hesitation staying here again.

Stayed at Polgreen as a birthday break - could not have wished for better accommodation, it is idyllic. The room was beautifully furnished with lovely views over the garden, chocolates and cookies left every day, what a treat! The breakfasts of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were delicious. They even provided soya milk for me.
But above all was the friendliness of Annabel and Jean, they could not have made us more welcome. We stayed there as it was near Heligan, a favourite of ours but we will definitely return. This is a haven that we would definitely highly recommend!!

We have visited Polgreen on 4 occasions, with family, as a couple and solo. Every time we have recieved a very warm welcome and enjoyed friendly chat throughout our stays. The rooms are immaculate, the breakfasts are perfect and the gardens are beautiful. We love the chocolates, the smoked salmon and the choc chip cookies. Thank you, Annabel and Jean for the extra kindness shown to us at a difficult time. See you soon!

We've just returned from our second stay at Polgreen and we will keep going back. We first stayed in September 2010 and were really excited to be returning. We were not disappointed! The rooms are extremely clean with lovely bed linen and towels. The breakfast is wonderful! Lots of little touches that really make it special; biscuits, the offer of fresh milk and choccies in the room. All this topped with lovely hosts. Perfect!
