“BE AWARE of room revenue charges”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Be aware that they charge 16.80 resort fee and also a 12% fee on top of the destination marketing tax and on top of that a 12% fee called a HST Room revenue charge which is based on the daily room rate. Example 165.00 room rate and in added fees 40.30 that is an added fee of 25% so if you book a room at this hotel expect to pay 25% in added fees. Spoke to Amanda at billing she said this is standard for this particular hotel. 30 min from Victoria but good for a golfer.

Room Tip: Be aware that they charge 16.80 resort fee and also a 12% fee on top of the destination marketing ta...

Dear srodri01,

Thank you for taking the time to post about your concern over the taxes charged at the Resort. All hotels in Victoria, BC are required by law to collect 2% Destination Marketing Tax and 12% HST. We do charge a nightly $15.00 resort fee ($16.80 including HST) which covers many services that hotels typically charge individually for. We're sorry to read you found these taxes to be higher than you had expected.

We hope you enjoyed your stay at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort and Spa.

Be well,

Our party of four (two adults, two 18 year old "boys") had two rooms at this golf resort.
The rooms were luxurious by our standards. Beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was deluxe, with a soaker tub and large shower stall.
Hotel staff was competent and accommodating.
My only complaint was that the hallways were very chilly, akin to opening the door to a walk-in freezer. Not too bad in June, but could be a problem in December!
The mountain top location felt quite surreal and artificial to us, kind of like "Whistler" in Victoria! Interesting experience...

We celebrated my father's 70th birthday here. It was a wonderful stay with good service and clean rooms. The hotel is beautifully situated on Bear Mountain, but the hotel is understaffed.

I love Westin properties. Clear, well appointed rooms and they took great care of us. Angela (breakfast server) was awesome and we had her take care of us every morning.

We will be back to stay, but even with the hotel and golf course dead quiet, the course Marshall was a Nazi. The only busy day was Saturday, and he was harassing us constantly.

Still a great experience.

Had a king suite, room was huge and very clean, feels like staying in someone's timeshare. Bed was fantastic as all Westins are. Check in staff was not overly warm. Had to walk in the rain 200 yards to get to the building we were in. No bell service offered. Went to the loung for a late night snack, the server was very pleasant but my wife returned her salad as it looked a few days old. Overall a very nice property but the typical service you would expect was somewhat lacking. Probably pass on a return visit.

Definitely a great place to stay if you want to get away from downtown Victoria and feel secluded. The hotel has a classy lodge-like decor that gives you the feeling of being on a retreat. However, you won't fully appreciate the resort unless you enjoy golfing as its next to a beautiful 36 hole golf course. Most of the people who are staying at the hotel are golfing or have a friend/family member who is golfing.

If you don't like to golf, there is pretty nice spa on site. The spa has a mineral pool and hot tub on an outdoor patio that overlooks the golf course where you can relax and enjoy a cocktail. You can also for a quick jog to and from the hotel on Bear Mountain and occassionally see deer hanging out along the way. Or if you do want to go into downtown Victoria, it's only 20 minutes away.

There's a few restaurants nearby, but not a whole lot of selection. I took a ferry from Seattle and brought my car on board, which came in quite handy because it allowed me to venture into the city and dine near the downtown area. Parking is free which is definitely a plus and WiFi on site becomes incredibly important especially since you will be in an international roaming area and render your cell phones useless or extremely expensive (unless you have an international data/calling plan).

This is a great hotel for business and family travel. I love the fact that the resort is not downtown as it feels like a mountain resort. If you are going to the attractions downtown you are less than 25 minutes away and about 45 minutes from the BC Ferry terminal at Swartz Bay. Costco, grocery stores, shopping mall and restaurants are all within a 10 minute drive. The service is great from check in to check out. I have stayed in the one bedroom suite and standard room with two queen size beds. They are both great but I have found the best option when with the family is to take the one bedroom suite which has two TVs, some privacy for mom and dad, a fireplace, full size fridge, stove, toaster and microwave and ample eating area. The standard room works too, but there is no stove and you will have to keep your food in a mini fridge. All room types have large balconies. There are three restaurant options on site. Across the driveway is a sushi bar which is next to the pub which provides full access to underage children and a childrens menu and of course the main hotel has a restaurant with great food and a view of the golf course and the surrounding mountains. The bar also has a great view. The rooms are always spotless and the I love the fact that after dinner I can take the kids (5 & 3) and our dog for a walk along the cart path of the golf course or through the forested trails. There is a great outdoor pool and hot tub located between the main building and the Fairway buidling that is a treat year round. The changerooms are spacious and always clean.

Love everything about bear mountain. The rooms are fabulous. The suites are spacious and perfect for our family of five. The kitchens are a great size with most of the tools we needed.... Although only enough dishes for 4. The service is always top notch and we always love Richard. We come at least 4 times a year and always enjoy our stay and my husband who is an avid golfer loves both courses.
