A magnificently restored castle that is privately owned. You get to explore through many of the rooms of the Castle. The lower level room was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I wont tell what it is, because it will spoil it. The rooms are opulent and the story of the castle is interesting. On our tour we had a group of young people perform authentic Austrian Dances for us. A must see.

Had a tour guide that made it great. Made the history pieces with Queen Victoria's family come together. Views of town are great. Castle is in good shape. For me it was a little gem. Worth seeing and have someone local take you through. Some great young female guides with great command of English are available. Might suggest booking guide in advance.

Time well spent in this attraction. What amazed us was the total wall and ceiling of the room all in mosaic painting. Some other room was with another design of diamond illusion ceiling.

More surprises for anyone visiting the castle. The furnitures were made for the royals. The rooms wide enough for a banquet. Everything was fascinating. Breathtaking.

We arrived at Hotel Goldenes Kreuz in Grein at 12:00, but as we couldn't check in until 14:00, we walked up the nearby hill to the imposing Scloss Greinburg. Built in 1488 and now owned by Prince and Duke Saxe-Coburg & Gotha as his second residence. The family kindly allow the public into most, but not all of the castle. The family has a wonderful royal history all over Europe. Our own Queen Victoria married Prince Albert Saxe-Coberg and Gothe and the British Royal Family only changed their name to Windsor due to the First World War. €5pp entrance. It's a lovely castle with fine views of the Danube. Wonderful central courtyard. Well worth the small entrance fee.

Not a lot to see but a pleasant way to spend an hour while staying in Grein. Nice views over the town and Danube River
