We walked over from Breezes just to check out this place. Oh, I don't think anyone but 3rd world would want to stay here. It is pretty scare, not dure how a bed would fit in these places, and of course no power. I would expect only locals might stay here and I doubt many of them. Sorry

Los Cocos was exactly what I was looking for, a pleasant stay at the beach with nice accommodations but no other tourists. My cabin was spacious, almost new, great A/C, hot water and an environment of friendly Cubans. The beach was OK but I am a Floridian with very high standards. I always ate at the smaller hut overlooking the beach where I was frequently the only one and developed a relationship with both cooks. I created the environment where service was excellent and had no complaints about the food.

If you are looking for a place with the look, feel, and culture of your home country, where there is an ever present English speaking wait staff to cater to you, but on the beach in Cuba, this is not the place for you. It is an excellent Cuban "campground" not a tourist resort.

The swimming pool was closed. If you want to go to the beach and then swim in a pool instead of the ocean, this is not your kind of place.

I took a hike down the beach and toured the Breezes while I was staying at Los Cocos. It is obvious that each place serves its own different market.

If what you want is excellent facilities on the beach, where everyone addresses their own needs, and with a great group of Cubans; then Los Cocos Campesimo is the place for you.

Room tip: Management will automatically give you the best cabin they have if you are obviously non-Cuban.

The good points were we were the only non-Cubans, we met some great people and the beach had some snorkeling (better than Varadero beach but unfortunately it was to stormy for us to see much). The cabana was good - a little apartment with its own tree frog and gecko as its more pleasant inhabitants.

The bad side was we came at the weekend on a bank holiday weekend and it was rum fueled, party time for the Cuban teenagers. Could be good if you are eighteen, but having the place turned in to a dance club didn't make it very relaxing for a family holiday. The beach wasn't pristine - just what ungroomed beaches are like these days.

The pool was untreated and the the kids couldn't go in, even when it wasn't the centre of the night club. Not being fussy - it was an ear infection waiting to happen.

The restaurant wasn't too bad for Cuba (apart from breakfast which was fairly dire), but you don't really have much other choice.

Pick a weekday and the place might be very pleasant.

We stayed here as a stopping off place between Varadero airport and Havana as it is about an hours/90 minute drive from the airport. It is a basic but clean holiday site mainly used by Cubans, consisting of painted separate cabins with bedroom, shower room and kitchen (tho no utensils apart from glasses). Also take your own toilet paper and the water seems to go off during the night?. It has a pool and is right on a narrow beach tho you can walk along the bay (to the right) to the beach of the all Inclusive superbreezes Jibacoa. Los Cocos is incredibly cheap at about £26 for a double cabana but absolutely no frills. There is a restaurant on site but the food is NOT good, in fact probably not edible for many used to European fare tho it has a great view over the sea and the people are very friendly. This is a place to stopover on a trip around cuba if you want to be mainly with Cubans rather than tourists but take your own breakfast. If travelling from the varadero direction the site is not signposted but you will need to turn off to the left from the main road and go underneath the road across to playa jibacoa . It is signposted from the havana direction.
