“great hotel!”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

we stayed here with two young children and it was wonderful. Staff was over-friendly, and spoke very passable English, but our German was pretty good. Cookies and soft drinks were available at all times. Food was FANTASTIC! We enjoyed the entire stay. Lovely play area for the kids, pool is very fun and colorful, and they have ski instruction for young kids. (my 3 year old had a blast!). The ski lift for us adults is a 10 minute walk..with beautiful views. Small grocery a 3 min. walk. Room was very big, with a separate alcove for the kids. Nice bar area, and lots of visits from Ladi (the hotel mascot)

We have previously stayed in several other kinderhotels which have all been wonderful. We were very disappointed with the Laderhof.
It is a very tired looking property with decor stuck in the early 1980s. There is almost no lobby or ambience....just a few uncomfortable seats in a foyer and it doesn't seem to be heated.
There is no place to store skiis at the hotel. They give you a key for a locker at the Ladis Skilift, but, there is nowhere to put your skîis on your last night after you have returned the key to the locker. The bus to the lift is very inconvenient. It always arrives full of other passengers (once he wouldn't let us on because he was already full....Then it is another 20 min wait. That doesn't work well with little kids (especially if you have to get them to the ski school on time). There is no transportation to the mountain if you want to see the Evening Ski Show in Fiss. For that there is no bus...The desk person told us that we would have to take our own car or walk. It would have been nice to have had a bus to help get us there.
The room was clean, but the hotel was not always so clean looking in general. I saw papers lying on the staircase for an entire day.
The pool was nice, but it didn't have any water features such as a massage bench with jets for the adult pool.
The childcare staff seemed nice, but our kids were busy with the ski school. The playroom was tiny, and the games room required Euros for some of the games.
The food was OK...The service was very slow....On the gala night, we sat for almost an hour before the first course was served. It doesn't look like there was any dining manager. The buffet area was very tight. There was no protective cover over the buffet...I saw people cough and sneeze over the food. Most of the food tasted pretty good....Except the shrimp skewers....They must have been microwaved......tasted horrible!!!!¨they were cold and mushy. The waiters were always overwhelmed, but the 2 male waiters were friendly. Often the kids buffet was empty (also the food from 4-6 in the bar area).
The owner speaks no English. She is often alone at the desk...
The younger desk person was helpful when we needed something.
Fair...slow service in restaurant. Disorganized and understaffed.
Some nights, the food was good, but not great.

Pool was ok....there was no entertainment for older kids or adults. Almost no chairs at the pool and nowhere to put towels and bathrobes.

The rooms were very very small! We had booked a Kuni Suite which we knew was 2 adjoining double rooms and 2 separate bath rooms. On the hotel website, both rooms looked to be identical, but in reality, one room had a double bed, but the other (the one for our kids) had a much smaller bed ( only with 2 duvets). There was very little room to put our clothes away....We had to keep alot of our things stored in the suitcases. This was very strange considering that it is a ski hotel. The bathrooms were tiny! The showers were the old fashioned style without a temperature mixer so it was either burning hot or freezing cold...dangerous for the kids. There was no water pressure, especially before dinner. The shower was so small that you would bang your elbow just shampooing your hair The soap wasnt refilled until we took the container off the wall and put it on the ground. There were no extra shelves in the bathroom under the sink to put anything away. We asked for extra pillows, and we had to ask for 3 days...we finally got them on the 3rd day. The table in our room had a broken leg and the table almost fell on my daughter. There were no pictures on the walls . The walls were so thin that we could hear our neighbors snoring all night. The tvs were so old....no Swiss or English channels. On the 2nd to last day, our door lock jammed and we were not able to use that door for the rest of our Holiday. We reported it immediately, but noone fixed it and the owner said that we would have to go in and out through our children's room. The heater in the room was way too hot....we had to open the window at night and it was -15C overnight.

We stayed at the Kinderhotel Laderhof in Ladis over the Xmas period, the first time we have experienced an Austrian 'Kinderhotel'.

Our overall experience was very good. The hotel seemed to largely cater for German, Swiss, Austrian and Dutch guests, and as such German was the predominant language, but it seemed that many of the staff also spoke some level of English so no issues there.

The hotel itself is not particularly large (maximum of 30-odd families at any one time) but this is a positive aspect. The facilities were excellent, particularly for children. There is a very large and comprehensive childrens area/kids club, with indoor play area, theatre, small climbing wall etc. There is a small ski area at the rear, although this is probably suitable only for complete beginners (we took our 4 year old child to the ski-school in Fiss). There is also the most amazing outdoor castle play area, although this was covered in snow during our stay.

The swimming pool wouldn't probably satisfy guests looking to swim great distances, but was great for families (there is a separate toddlers pool), is both indoor and outdoor, and was warm enough for us.

The hotel also offers a games room and fitness area which are reasonably well stocked - the only negative is that they are under the pool, so the area is rather warm/humid and there are no windows. Not the end of the world however.

Dining areas and bar were sufficiently large/comfortable. The kids club will feed your little ones earlier and look after them during your dinner, or they can eat with you. The food was tremendous, varied and very, very generous - dinner, for example, is a 5 course meal every night. Only slight downside is that the main dish will be served at 8pm and not after so not great if you want to put your child to bed before eating (this is something management should look at). Bar prices are very good and again, servings generous. The babyphone provided by the hotel works in the restaurant/bar area.

The bedrooms were reasonably well appointed (we had two adjoining 20m2 bedrooms) and while not being in a particularly modern style, were appropriate for the mountain setting. View and balcony was a definite plus. Note there was no bath in the rather compact bathrooms, but the shower stall would be deep enough to bathe a baby. There are no English language TV stations but sufficient local ones.

The main downside of our room is that the walls between our room and the neighbours and into the corridor were not very well sound-proofed. This means that if we or our neighbours made any noise, we all heard it. As this is a children's hotel (where one expects noisy/crying kids) I guess you have to live with that.

Staff service was truely excellent. Sure, the reception is not manned after 9pm and the barman may be filling in with other duties at certain times, but the staff seemed ready to do anything to make the stay a good one. This is where the smallish size really becomes a really positive factor - the staff do get to know you and you are not treated as just another random guest. For example, we were snowed in on our departure day and without flinching, the hotel sent someone down the valley to fetch chains and then helped mount them, in very difficult conditions.

In terms of skiing, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the lift in Ladis but there is a shuttle bus there and back at key times and the hotel provides a locker right by the lift. Ladis is at the far end of the ski area so most skiing is done in Fiss or Serfaus (and there's not much apres ski in Ladis) but the skiing terrain was remarkable. We are both experienced skiiers and the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis area is on a par with any of the more well known resorts. The kids school was excellent and the lift facilities perhaps the most modern we have ever encountered.

So, overall a great hotel if you want to spoil the kids, and offered at a reasonable price. Not quite so relaxing if you want peace and quiet, but I guess you'd not go to a kinderhotel in the first place if you're after that.

Final note is that although we were there in winter, it seems that there is lots to do in summer, although as it is in a mountain valley, it would pay to check that the hotel is in the sun at that time.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room if possible. Only some rooms face towards the valley - others face in towards...
