“Nice and Luxury suites”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

I stayed two nights with my family (wife, and son) and the impression we had was so great.
the room was so spacious and clean. there were of cause a bottle of wine, beers, cookies, drinks for free.

The owners are so kind and the explanation about the hotel and local restaurants was far more than detailed what I expected.

My wife gave a big thumb the first moment she entered the room. it was pleasant experiences in all aspect.

Beautiful ancient villa. Large and nicely decorated rooms. Very relaxed and quiet location. Lisbon and Sintra can be easily reached by train or car. Very friendly English-speaking owners which always happy to help with every bit of information. Excellent breakfast.

Ditto and more is what I would say to all the reviews that have spoken so well about the Quinta and Tony and Penny. It is a beautifully restored Quinta, huge rooms with massive bathrooms, wonderful hosts and all details looked after. There is a guest kitchen too. We were here for two nights and it was lovely. It is a little difficult to find and it is good if you have a car. It was cold when we arrived here and couldn't use the pool but I am sure it will be lovely in the summer. Would love to come back and highly recommend this place.

We stayed only one night in Quinta do Scoto but is was a stay to remember. The location is ideal as the Quinta is close to Lisbon, the coast and to Sintra. You can enjoy the nature and the culture in this part of Portugal. We enjoyed the very warm welcome. Tony and Penny make you feel at home and can give you advise about almost everything. Tony was very enthousiastic about the Quinta da Regaleira near Sintra and we decided to visit the place. It was fantastic! Like a fantasyworld with tunnels, secret doors and a beautiful green garden.
The stay at the Quinta do Scoto was perfect. We had a good night sleep, in the beautiful and enormous room. Now we were only with the two of us, but I can imagine that the rooms are also perfect for familys. We had a nice glass of wine and Penny and Tony had thought of everything; fruit, water, biscuits in the room. The bathroom is lovely ;). In the morning we had a perfect breakfast in the Entrada. We were sad that we had to go this soon and will pay them a visit in the future.

Based on TripAdviser reviews, we changed our plans and reservations a few weeks before leaving so that we could spend one night at Quinta do Scoto before going into Lisbon and dropping off the car. We definitely made the right decision, but wish we had taken the time to revise the last part of our trip and used this incredible B&B as a base for exploring Lisbon and the surrounding region. If we were able to do it again, we would have stayed at least three nights, rather than one, and commuted into Lisbon by train and kept the car for trips to Sintra and other places of interest in the surrounding countryside. As it was, we could hardly enjoy the comforts, hospitality, and ambience of Quinta do Scoto; without doubt the best B&B we have ever encountered in almost 40 years of European travel. (Why can’t the British do this at home is our question?)

From our first contact about possibly booking, Penny and Tony exceeded our expectations in every way. Never has a B&B proprietor invited us in for a drink on first arriving or placed a welcome bottle of wine in our room. And these were just two of the many small touches that made for a wonderful stay. The facilities at the complex are incredible, and while October is not the month to use the pool or bar-b-que, in warmer months the place has all the aspects of a small resort rather than a B&B. All that is missing is the sand and ocean, which really is not that far away. Our room, the Sr Miguel Suite, was huge, probably larger than our living room at home. The bath was stocked with everything one could possibly need, including a separate bath and shower. The bedroom was tastefully appointed and gave a couple a choice between double beds with either a hard or soft mattress, incredible. Huge glass doors opened out onto the yard and pool, making one wish it was summer.

The property has been lovingly restored, and this is particularly noticeable in the manor house with the woodwork and beautiful tiles. Penny and Tony are only too happy to answer questions about the restoration, and we had wonderful conversations before dinner and at breakfast. The amount and variety of food at breakfast was almost embarrassing, and what we were able to sample (calories be damned) was delicious. Without question, this is one of the most interesting and impressive places we have ever encountered. There was absolutely nothing to complain about, unless you think Tony and Penny are too nice, or the room is too big, or you ate too much at breakfast. Oh, I guess you could say it’s a bit difficult to find, but we managed with their directions.
In short, one night simply couldn’t do justice to the pleasures of staying at Quinta do Scoto. Our advice is to contact Penny and Tony early in your planning and allow them to help you plot out an itinerary for Lisbon and environs using the B&B as a base. You will not regret it.

Although we didn't have the best weather this week in Portugal we enjoyed our stay with Tony and Penny very much. I think it is needless for me to repeat everything everybody else already has written. It feels like home (not just meaning the similarity in weather this week), huge rooms, great help from the hosts, breakfast was great (sitting at one big table with the other guests allows for exchanging information on great things to do and see) and finally all the animals around the house etc. etc.

A car is very helpful to get around although it appears to be doable with public transport as well. Lisbon is a great city and we certainly enjoyed our trip to Sintra very much as well. All of them are within ca. 20 minutes drive so no problem at all.

If we ever come back to Lisbon this is the place where we will certainly go again.

Room Tip: Any room is perfect although the ground floor rooms will give you immediate access to the pool which...

The quinta's intrinsic qualities--the rooms, the food, and the friendliness of the owners--are excellent, as you probably know from other reviews. So it's worth addressing what I imagine is the only thing that might keep some people from staying here: concern about distance from Lisbon and other area destinations. You'll be a fairly brief car ride from Lisbon, Sintra, etc, but even without a car, you'll have easy access to trains that can get you to all these destinations in less than half an hour. In short, Tony and Penny offer the best of all worlds. This was our favorite hotel in Portugal and we certainly will stay again on our next visit.
