I booked a "LAND VIEW" suit and at check in they gave us a "SKY VIEW" suit. WE LOVED IT: the decoration, the personal, the food, the bed, the particular open air jacuzzi, and specially the SKY VIEW window on top of our bed. What a great experience!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a SKY VIEW suite. It is super!

There are some mixed reviews on here so I wanted to add mine as I just had the best hotel experience of my life at L'AND. The concept of this place is to enjoy the peace and quiet - I received a lovely handwritten note in my room which really set the tone for the rest of the stay. I found the staff to be warm and attentive, well educated and multi-lingual. The meals were up with the best meals of my life and I have had the pleasure of eating at some of the world's best restaurants (definitely the best buffet breakfast ever). The architecture and interior decoration is world class - very modern - and I can imagine it might not suit the old fashioned. The perks in the room were luxurious and functional and I believe the design suits all seasons. It was rather cold during our stay but we had a lovely massage, sauna and a hot bath in our room. It couldn't have been a nicer or more relaxing experience. One year in and I'm sure there will be many to come...

Room Tip: Splurge on a sky suite.

We just spend one night in the AND Vineyards resort and need to report to you our bad experience with this hotel.

First of all, their website refer this hotel as located in Evora while this is incorrect as it is located more at 40km away = 40 min (you can check on googlemaps) in a small city called Montemor-O-Novo, so this is misleading customer. It is good that tripadvisor is reporting the right location.

Nothing is mentioned on their webiste about the fact that this hotel is partly finished (less than a year in function and still lot of construction ongoing outside).

They report themselves as winery while they forgot to mention on their website that due to recent activity they are not processing wine yet but wine is made from another wine factory.

The price we paid for included a "complementary massage" and "complementary wine testing" . However the front desk manager never mentioned anything at our arrival, we had to ask him about the massage and he informed us that at that time only that the massage was only a 5min massage only (!!!) and wine testing was only a glass of wine. Again that was misleading from the offer.

The front desk manager proudly mentioned at check in that we would have been upgraded while the room we got was only what we paid for.

The room was also disappointed , we noticed several lamps which were not working (meaning that no one is checking that room are functioning correctly), bathroom was not clean at all with lot of dirt in bath tube. Also not a practical design, there is a lot to say here, with nothing being at the right place for easy convenience (mirror in bathroom accessible for person below 1m60 only, switches in wrong side of the room…), the room are located outside away from the restaurant , meaning that you have to walk outside 50 meters to go for breakfast. Not really nice when it is raining.

Overall we don't believe this hotel can be rated luxury for his design, nor we understand how being such recent hotel and still under construction it get access to be rated as luxury hotel.

In addition, after fantastic 10 days spend in Portugal in other luxury hotels and with fantastic staff we can only say the the L'AND resort definitely stands far below in terms of quality of service and hospitality.

We defenitely will not come back to this hotel but for sure we will be back to this mazing country.

First let me start with the positive notes...
1 - Beautiful architecture, especially in the main building where you have the reception, restaurant and SPA.
2 - The rooms are very spacious, very comfortable with simple and modern design.
3 - Great restaurant, one of the best for me in the entire country! The chef makes beautiful and very tasty dishes with a twist on local products.
4 - The welcome massage they give at the spa... its 10 min but is very good!

Now the less positive notes:
1 - The views from the resort are great (to the lake and to the castle in Montemor-o-novo, but in my room (and I think in most of them) when you wake up and are in bed the 2 windows are facing a white wall. That are no views from the room, only from the living room and even there the sofa is facing the wall and not the views. I imagine the layout was to protect privacy but there are lots of ways to do that and still make your guests enjoy the views...
2 - There is no TV in the bedroom, so if you are one of those people that likes to wake up and stay in bed watching a little of TV on weekends then "the concept of this hotel" is not for you (in the words of one of the staff members).
3 – The water in the indoor pool is cold (perhaps 22-24º). As we were there in February we wanted to take a swim in the indoor poll but we didn't have the courage to enter because of the water temperature.
4 - The rooms are separate from the main building which means you have to walk outside to go and have your breakfast. In the summer I think this is ok, but in the cooler months this is not very comfortable!
5 - Great emphasis on architecture and design but missing some of the basics in a hotel... (1) when you enter the main building you don't see the reception, you have to look for it; (2) in the bathrooms there is no place to put your “necessaire” (the ladies know how this is important); (3) complementary coffee and tea in the room but no pot to make the tea; (4) beautiful outside fireplace but if there is a little of wind you can't be there since the smoke comes directly at you...

And that's it... wonderful architecture and design BUT missing the basics of a cosy and comfortable hotel where the needs of the guest were carefully thought over!!

We arrived on December 22nd. and stayed for 3 nights. We felt thoroughly spoilt as the accommodation was simply gorgeous, spacious and extremely comfortable To have an IPAD for ones use in the suites was amazing although we had brought our own laptop and did not need it. It might be useful to know for other travellers. We had lunch twice at the hotel and it was excellent on both occasions as were their breakfasts. We did make use of the Turkish steam room and the Sauna and but did not use either pool. The staff were very professional and friendly and went out of their way to try and organise a Week-end FT for us.- Staying at L´AND was so peaceful and we will certainly have another break there soon.

Room Tip: The sky suites are the obvious choice!

I was staying in L'AND in Jan 2012 and the resort was superb. The place itself was absolutely breathe taking and beautiful, beside that, the service was excellent and we couldn't ask for more, the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, especially Ana from the front desk and Michael from the restaurant, they were both very nice and made our trip even more memorable.

Being an Asian (Hong Kong to be exact), we travel a lot to other Asian resorts and compare with the resorts in Asia, there're some improvements that L'AND could be made:

1. Although the place was nice (opened in 2011?), some interior were quite worn out, for example the TV stand was out of shape already, the curtain rail was broken when we arrived (but they fixed it right away)

2. TV can definitely be bigger

3. There's a iPad inside the room which was great! However, the wifi service also available inside the room only. When I went to the restaurant and the pool, no wifi service.

4. The bathroom was huge, I love it! But those hangers should be put beside the shower, or the bath tub, that would make more sense. Now they are placed near the bathroom entrance.

5. The water inside the shower room was not hot enough (we were there at winter time)

6. The most inconvenient problem would be the unstable electricity, we experienced a few times of short circuit, totally black out, that's not very cool.

However, the above minor flaws didn't affect the overall impression we had on L'AND at all, we love the place and last but not least, the restaurant - the food (and the service) was so good! Yes, it was pricey, but it was very delicious.

Mr. Fung

Room Tip: Sky view suite, definitely!

I stand on l'and, with my wife and our two children (8 and 11 ) for two days in the early of September.
The architecture is really fantastic, unique in the Alentejo region, a master piece perfectly integrated in the landscape. The interior decoration is full of simplicity and god taste.
Michael Biberstein’s painting in the lounge complete the sense of elegance and modernity.
The suite room is plenty of space with all the expected amenities of a 5 star hotel. The sky view window above the master bed is a reality that gives you an impressive feeling of sleeping in the middle of a starry sky.
The service must have same enhancements witch is apparently normal, once the hotel was recently opened. Although all the staff was kind and polite both for us and kids.
The restaurant has a quality above average in accordance with the general quality of the hotel.
There was two marvelous and very quiet days that we have appreciateed and are thankful.
In definetly we recomend.
Congratulations.
Mary and Paul
