The Lake is beautiful but the guest house area is in desperate need of a clean up. The area is covered in litter and the situation for the toilets needs urgent intervention to prevent it deteriorating further. The small village that has cropped up in semi-permanent metal huts that double as gusets houses and restaurant is detracting from the stunning beauty. At night the neon signs put the last nail in the coffin. As you walk along the shore caravans of jeeps drive round stopping at each photograph opportunity disturbing the peace and tranquility.
Having said all that this is an area of stunning beauty but it needs protecting before it is spoilt.

The road to get there is a bit hard due to the altitude and turns, about 4 hours drive from Lhassa. When you get there, it's so nice and incredible, blue and pure water and the snow mountains in the background. Many souvenirs shops are around and nothing to do with the magnificient of the place. Advice : take our own lunch in box before the trip.

Lake Namtso is 1 of most beautiful place i ever been, it's incredible and amazing, please be noted it's very cold, and hotel condition is not good enough, not power in rooms. anyway, the view is so good for vacation and hike.

The scenery is heavenly. It takes quite some effort to get there from Lhasa and you might end up having altitude sickness as it climbs up to 5000 metres above sealevel on the way. But once when you get there you know it's worth it. Both the sky and lake are so blue that you begin to wonder if there is some artificial colour in it. The snow-capped mountains in the background add to its charm. But do bring some warm clothes, it's still quite chilly even in Summer.

It's a beautiful lake more than looking like a mirror. Lake itself and the surrounding such as snow mountain range, blue sky and sandy beach etc are so attractive and wonderful to take photos.
Hate the crowds and the rude maner of the horse riding business group who spoit the quiet and beautity of nature. Avoid the horse riding
Beware of the charges although they are standard now. They charged RMB20 from the starting of path down to the beach edge with a small sign and total distance is less than 100m distance. My walking time about 10 min. Then other RMB10 from the beach edge onto the beach. So they charged RMB30 from my friend and she didnot know that it was an other charge to be on the beach just 5 m from the sign for photos.
Prepare long travel hours to there from Lhasa city, about 9 hours for to and return, but worth to spend a day.
Not recommend to stay there because the condition of accomodation and restaurant was not so satifactory and over-charged.
