“Absolutely superb”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

As a group of friends we visited Sudu's for dinner and had such a great evening - Sudu and his team are so friendly and welcoming, the Sri Lankan food was simply outstanding, the coconut sambal and fish curry were to die for but it was all truly delicious, really fresh and full of flavour, completely authentic. Will definitely be visiting as often as we can.

“Excellent food and ambience”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We have eaten at Sudu a few times now

The food is superb, real home-cooked style. The flavours are fresh and subtle, unlike the oily food in most South Asian restaurants. There is a good vegetarian selection and the pumpkin curry is amazing!

I believe the chef gets freshly blended spices from a special recipe prepared by his mother. I would love to get my hands on his spice mix to recreate the lovely aroma and taste.

The setting is equally impressive. It is on a quiet spot on the sea-front. I can spend hours on a Sunday afternoon having lunch and coffee and watching the boats at sea. It is a byob, and next time we plan to take a bottle of wine to have a relaxed Sunday brunch.

All in all, highly recommended for an authentic, relaxing experience

“Delicious Sri Lankan Curry - a real gem!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

For a start this is a not a normal restaurant - a hard working couple (the chef is Sri Lankan), both of whom have day jobs, but they take over daytime cafe premises right at the end of Gorey Pier in the evening to offer a small range of Sri Lankan curries. If you can cope with "not normal" and love delicious curry then this is a fabulous place to go. The view is lovely, esp when the tide is up, looking out over the beautiful Gorey harbour with all the boats at their moorings. Most seating is outside, covered by an awning, but in 2013 they are getting a larger indoor area. There is a bit of a wait for the food (everything is cooked from scratch in a small kitchen, and there is only the couple working), but with good company, the view and some wine the wait is immaterial. Do take your own wine or beer as Sudu's is not licenced. The selection of food is small - basically chicken, pork, fish or vegetarian curry served with rice and a dhal and then a few side dishes such as - pumpkin curry, beetroot curry, coconut sambal etc, but it is all delicious. The chef explained that his mum in Sri Lanka makes the spice mix up each week and posts it to him - so it really is the REAL thing. I would totally recommend Sudu's but can imagine that there are plenty of fussier people, who like things "just so" who would not appreciate the Sudu experience.

“Stunning views + curry”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

I tried this restaurant one warm evening after work, when the tide was high. The views are lovely and I found Sudu’s a very chilled out place to have dinner. We had to wait just over hour for our food as it was very busy and I could only see 2 people working. The wait was worth it; the Chicken Curry + dal and rice (all for £10 a head) was really lovely without being overly spicy. You can bring your own wine down. I can’t think of anywhere nicer to spend a summers evening in Jersey well done Sudu for bringing Sri Lankan food to Jersey.
