“Great value!”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed at this little hotel in Rio Lagartos for one night. The room were very clean and comfortable but basic, perfect for our needs. The location is excellent with all rooms having views and a balcony over the water. The price is extremely reasonable. The staff is OK but nothing more. We asked for a bag-breakfast to have prior to an early birding tour and they said they don't do so.
However, we would stay there again because of the location, cleanliness of the rooms and the price.

The hotel is slightly strange, but wasn't helped by the fact that we were visited in low season. The room was very basic and quite hot despite the air conditioning. We did have a private balcony with a view of the sea which was lovely. Breakfast is not included and water is not provided. The bathroom was slightly dingy. The staff don't speak english, but if you can speak any spanish you will be fine. They were helpful in helping us sort out a boat tour of the nature reserve. They didn't have our reservation when we arrived and did try to charge us twice, but we did manage to sort this out. Breakfast was quite expensive for what it was, compared to other places we stayed. There are no cash machines or banks in the area, so be sure to pay by paypal or take cash with you.

We just spent two nights there and loved it!
Felipe, the owner is a very friendly parson! Ask him first before getting wrong recommendations. Rooms are clean and nice. Very inexpensive!
Get a boat trip to see flamingos, wildlife, salt mines and eat in San Felipe!

We enjoyed our stay at Rio Lagartos in the Hotel Villa de Pescadores. We had a balcony with a view and the climb on the stairs were not as bad, I thought, as some people had stated in other reviews. The rooms were very clean with comfortable beds and pillows. The restaurant was not open when we were there, but there were several close by that you could walk too. There is onsite parking and they can help you with a guide for the flamingos, salt flats and mud baths that are offered. There is also a beach about 5 km away.

We drove to Rio Lagartos without any reservation and stopped at the Villa de Pescadores to check it out. We liked it so much that we didn't look at the other places in town. Our room was immaculate, with a gorgeous view of the water. The king bed was the wonderful. As an extra bonus, the owner, Felipe Gonzalez, was extremely helpful. He not only arranged a boat trip for us, he also gave excellent advice about driving to our next destination. A great spot!

Room Tip: It is imperative that you get a room far away from the rooster who lives in the property behind.

We loved the great view from our balcony overlooking the harbour and the Rio beyond, its worth upgrading to one of the better rooms for this alone.
The owner was very helpful, including getting us a a guide for the park the next day.
The restaurant was closed when we were there but we found others close by.
Parking on site

Room Tip: Upstairs overlooking the water.

I don't want to exaggerate but I think the service and friendliness of the owner, Felippe, of this hotel has restored my faith in the service industry! He could not do enough to make us happy and our stay comfortable. The location is delightful in this sleepy village and the rooms overlooking the sea and the fishermen are delightful. The restaurant served lovely, fresh and organic food. The breakfast is lovely too and they'll even serve you at the crack of dawn before you head off on your flamingo tour.

Room Tip: Make sure you've got a sea view
