We had the luck to be at Rio Lagartos before the holidays of Easter. We were nearly alone as visitors at this romantic place. We've had checked in already in another hotel nearby but tried the restaurant per chance. The vegetarian food was so pure, fresh and excellent and the service so personally and warm that we came the next day self-evidentally again. For sure we stay at this place the next time longer! Please don't miss to search for Gaspard who will bring you with his boat to the flamingos, white pelicans and to a salty sea where we had a lot of fun because you swim ON the water during Gaspard takes pictures. And don't miss to treat you with the white cley and pose like magic beings! On the way back with the sunset and carefully cleaned with sweet-water from a special source we pleased Gaspard to sing for us. And he did! Finally we sang together till to the harbor. A love couple and huge heart Gaspard.

Rio Lagartos is exceptional! This hotel has the friendliest staff!
I grew up in Cancun and had never made it out to Rio Lagartos. I was impressed. Driving to Rio Lagartos was a treat, there were fruit stand all along the way with fresh papaya, mangos, pineapples!

The flamingos live in very salty water, so salty you float, just like in the Dead Sea! and the wind creates a foam made out of salt that is the best natural spa experience I've had in my life. There is a very nice white mud to do a mud bath after, and all this was made available by our AMAZING tour guide Jesus. He is passionate about his work and his homeland. We had so much fun with him! He works with Villa de Pescadores.
The hotel was beautiful and simple. They offer a private restaurant for hotel guests only that serves DELICIOUS food at very good prices. They even cooked for us when we got back from our trip and the kitchen was not officially open. The owner of the hotel is always there and is proud and eager to make our stay the best he could.
The owner was very knowledgeable of the area and recommended visiting Valladolid on the way out and an amazing restaurant called Las Campanas, in front of the main cathedral. The food was reasonably priced and delicioius. We ordered Papadzules and fresh Chaya and Papaya water yum!
The view from our room was lovely and an overall excellent experience!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor for best views :)

This will be my 4th time to stay with my friends at the Villa de Pescadores. I love the sweet little Hotel by the harbor. The world class birding starts from your room and is just a hint of the many many birds you will see in Rio Larartos.

From The finest Vegetarian food! Yes, Vegetarian food to the greatest local fare. You can be sure the food will be amazing. Marta and Paulino work magic in that kicthen. Everyone there is so wonderful and dear. I am lucky to call them friends. Yet, you too will feel the warmth coming from this wonderful family ran business.
They also feature many offerings: They can hook you up with Birding tours to local ruin trips to EkBalam. Which features one of the largest cenote and 100's of local birds.
The hot coffee and pancakes are such a wonderful treat to wake up to. They strive to serve only organic and fresh local fare. If you like wine let them know in advance and there it will be ready for your arrival.
They feature a local feather artist that makes beautiful pieces of feather jewelry. His styles using local bird feathers are all one of a kind and beautifully styled. $20.00 will get you a beautiful treasure to wear again and again. All feathers are found. Never hunted. Can take years to make a single matching earrings.
I/We will be staying at the Villa de Pescadores again. I just hope it is very soon....

Room Tip: Just book it and let them do the rest. i like the upper rooms best. Great for people/bird watching.

Very basic accommodations that were clean, quiet, and simple - just what we needed for our less-than-24-hour stay in Rio Lagartos. They have a nice roof deck with great views. The hotel itself is right on the water so we could see pelicans and other birds and lots of boats right from our room.

We had two rooms with our family of 5 (2 adults, one teen, 2 small kids). Both rooms were clean, comfortable, perfect for our needs. The restaurant served very nice dinners. Staff were all helpful and friendly. The manager put us in touch with a guide (Jesus) who gave us a great boat tour at a reasonable price so I would highly recommend asking at the hotel for a good guide. Jesus took us to see flamingos along with many other water birds, crocs, gave our teenager a mud bath he won't forget, etc. etc. My husband and i are serious birders and this trip is an absolute must for bird enthusiasts but also is obviously of interest to a wider audience as flamingos are one of those really unbelievable critters. Also, for anyone even remotely interested in birds, the birds that flew by our balcony were exceptional - a photographers dream being so close and anyone could get a good view of some really cool sea birds we don't all see every day (skimmers, frigatebirds, etc). All in all a great place, comfortable and friendly in a good location and the price was very reasonable. Loved it!

Room Tip: All the rooms were nice but if you are a couple, the rooms over the restaurant have king sized beds...

We always fly into Cancun, rent a car and head right out. This was our first time visiting Rio Lagartos and we are just sorry it took us 8 years to discover it! I chose this hotel based on their web site and the Tripadvisor reviews and we were more than pleased. It's a great location, nice rooms and the staff was very pleasant. Paulino R. was most gracious, enjoyable to talk with and suggested other areas and resturants to visit in the Yucatan. We took his advise and his recommendations were right on target. We had reservations in a different town or we would have stayed here at least another night. We were there on February 16th. We look forward to our trip there next year and will stay at least 2 nights and take advantage of one of the tours.

The hotel was clean and the top floor rooms offer a great view of the lagoon. The room was spacious and had a balcony facing North East. We ate at the restaurant next door. We took an early morning boat trip to the nature reserve / salt works / mud baths, which was wonderful. In three hours we saw, Spoonbills, Herons, Flamingos, two types of hawks and Pelicans. We were also lucky enough to see a raccoon out foraging and small alligator basking in the morning sun.
We went with the boatmen from the restaurant next door as we found Mr Jesus of the hotel irritating, rather pushy and somewhat dishonest, as he attempted to persuade my wife that we should take a tour immediately in the afternoon of our arrival when the wind was obviously blowing in and we wanted to go to eat. He simply did not want to take us in the early morning. The fellows at the next door restaurant were more accommodating and 100 pesos cheaper !
This hotel was good value for money.

Room Tip: Take a top floor room if available.
