A chance to see how Sugar Cane is transformed into rum, and then have a sip of a few different types to see what you like. Amazing location, great restaurant - food was great and really good shop! Worth a visit

“Beautiful scenic and rumbustious”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

A must see and do on your visit to mauritius. Take a scenic trip up the valley from petit river noire and be welcomed by breathtaking views all the way to an equally breathtaking setting which houses the Chamarel rum factory with its manicured gardens and beautiful landscaping throughout! Our fantastic guide Natalie, greeted us at the gate with a broad smile and a mocking personality which was equally charming as it was welcoming! She guided us around the grounds, explaing in great detail the working and going ons behind the production of rum. The rum tasting at the end of the excursion is not for the feint of heart, and do take the second offering of Rum from our dear Natalie, she is such a great sales motivator, as the gift shop is to die for! And do spend money buying Rum and their truly amazing coffee and Vanilla rum as, unlike in South Africa, their own products are actually cheaper at the factory! We did not try the restaurant for dinner, yet the menu looks very promising, we will have to try it on our next visit!

“A beautiful setting - but you'd better like rum!”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

We visited the Rhumerie during a tour of the South of the Island with White Sands Tours. We spent about an hour and a half there including time for lunch. Our White Sands tour guide showed us round but there was very little to look at and do - nothing was operational.

We were able to sample all the different types of rum..some of which were painful to drink - very strong!! If you're not much of a drinker, take a mixer with you!!

The gift shop was well priced so I bought a bottle to take home. The restaurant was nice too - good food - but I can't comment on the value as it was included in the tour price. The staff were a bit clumsy - kept dropping things!!

The setting is lovely - it was a beautiful day and there were birds everywhere which really emphasised the beauty of the building and surroundings.

“Shopping and eating”

Go for a good meal (although the service made us feel like we were in a school canteen) and a quality gift shop - but there's not much else to do or see there.

“Beautiful place”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Visited the rum distillery during a tour of the southern part of Mauritius. It is beautiful around here. We had lunch just before we arrived, but the lunch menu and the restaurant on the premises looked very nice and I would have loved to lunch there. Our guide, Yasheta, was very sweet and gave us a good tour and explanation about the distillery. We enjoyed our visit very mush.

Ps. The Rum was actually better priced here than in town and at the duty free at the airport.
