“A plunge into the ravine below”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

This for me was the poorest example of cuisine and service on the entire island, the food and drinks were way overpriced from my calculation 50% higher then anywhere else.

we were greated with the smell of an overflowing septic tank just meters from the door of the resturant. but hey everyone has one or two technical problems once in a while.

We were seated and the waiter disappeared, without explaining the option of either the buffet menu or even the main menu. we took the initiative and went to the buffet table needless to say the options were limited and the quality very poor. the picnic basket prepared by our 3 star hotel included more varity and value for money.

In closing the view from the resturant could not brighten the shocking service or should i say lack there of.

“A place to eat and live in wonderful surroundings”
Reviewed May 30, 2010

This wonderful place, has excellent food and prompt polite service, with views to die for, the approaches are down steps surrounded by lovely greenery and flowers. Interesting information on a previous visit by Prince Edward is shown with photographs. The atmosphere is friendly and seating is in a cool environment after a day in the hot sun, Plenty of interesting things to see around, like the carvings and old saw mill building. There were plenty of people there but the place is spaceous with good clean toilet facilities. I/we recommend it..

“Food OK over priced & choice not clearly communicated”
Reviewed August 7, 2009

The location is pretty if you like green mountains but there are better locations with views of the ocean too. The Restaurant was over-priced at £50 per head for 2 course lunch that was tasty but for a main & dessert & not michelin star rated. The menu was not clearly explained when you changed an option from the set menu (even though the item selected was cheaper, they tried to charge more). I was not impressed. Have been to better places in the world. Preferred another location with better views at Chamarel Restaurant. Not checked prices or food there but if similar prices, then view is better! at least.

“Great food in an impressive scenery”
Reviewed January 23, 2008

The restaurant is located in the heart of an evergreen forest adjoining the National Park, in the very lap of Piton de La Petite Rivière Noire, the highest peak of Mauritius.
Originally a rustic gamekeeper’s lodge, the restaurant has been conceived as a large verandah, with a balcony view over the whole of the mountainous area, sweeping down to Baie du Cap, Le Morne and beyond.
The restaurant serves a cuisine based on French cuisine and traditional local flavours. Try their pineapple slices in light caramel and rum sauce served with coconut ice cream and their Pina colada.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook and read what Prince Edward, Jacques Chirac or Sonia Gandhi wrote.
