I didn't end up visiting these cottages, for me the way people are treated at the point of booking is important, so thought I would share this to help others. If customer service at the point of sale isn't good, you've no chance of resolving any issues that may arise at a later date.
I was booking late and all the 4 star cottage complexes were unfortunately booked up. I found Doxford through Internet search, I was a bit unsure at first due to some negative reviews and fact that photos of some cottages just show the kitchen, usually pictures of all rooms are shown!
Anyway, I enquired via email late at night, availability was confirmed quickly & responded re price. Unfortunately, I do have to work for a living, but checked emails when got home next day. Replied to email re price to confirm booking, having told my young son we were going. Got email back shortly after saying cottage had been let to someone else, but we could have a different smaller cottage. They did have another cottage available, but that would cost us another £100!
If this is how customers are treated when booking, what's the after sales service like!
I've booked elsewhere, where I know the accommodation and customer service is good quality. Might cost a bit more, but the expression 'you get what you pay for' is certainly true.
