“A lovely relaxing break in an idylic location!”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We had such a lovely weekend away at Doxford Farm Cottages. The farm is surrounded by beautiful tranquil countryside and the accommodation was amazing, it was everything you would want in a country cottage. We stayed in the East End Cottage, which was very spacious and had a private garden for the dogs. It was perfect for long walks with the dogs and it was close to the beach and other wonderful sites. really enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to return in the future.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week over Easter, from the easter egg on arrival to seeing the farm in full action for lambing it was great. Everyone was very welcoming and my daughter (8yrs) loved being in the lambing shed, feeding, cuddling and learning about the lambs and my son (4yrs) loved the dogs. We enjoyed the farm walk to the lake and my husband even had a shot a flyfishing whilst the children made mud pies!
There was everything we needed in the East end cottage but it was quite cold despite the wood burning stove - apparently better if you use coal. When there was a problem with the toilet this was fixed promptly. We left a children waterbottle at the cottage and it was hand delivered to us in Edinburgh - thanks
The area is lovely with Alnwick castle and garden with tree house resaurant book ahead! and not far to the coast - Craster to Dunstanburgh and Holy Island.
would definately visit again at Easter.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Northumberland, staying in Northside Cottage on Doxford Farm. This is the fourth time we have been to Northumberland and the fourth time to Doxford Farm. We always stay in Northside as it has the little garden for the dog. The cottage is very comfortable with a log fire and wood burner in the dining room. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable. The cottages are located close to Alnwick and very central for beaches and castles alike. With thanks to Sarah and family are friendly for a great holiday - We will return to Doxford Farm Cottages, a home from home!

After a difficult year for the family, we decided to spend Christmas in our favorite place, Doxford Farm, a great decision as we had a cosy, uplifting week. The weather was not as snowy as we had hoped but the rainy conditions did not affect us as we were so comfy in Stewards Cottage. The grandparents came for a couple of days and we found we had plenty of plates, cutlery etc to serve everyone. The Shell family, well Richard and John made sure we had a fab time and were always on hand should we need anything. We all slept brilliantly as the beds are so comfortable with ample covers if needed. Both our children were ill on arrival but the farm soon worked its magic. As I have mentioned in previous reviews, the location of the cottages is great, we were near enough to Alnwick for shops and takeaways, the coast for exhilarating walks with the dog, and the hills for beautiful views and snow! We returned home extremely reluctantly, surely the sign of a great holiday, We will certainly return and hope others will love the farm as much as we do.

We stayed at Doxford Farm cottages for a week in mid November this year and had a great time. There are a number of cottages available, and the one we had, had a nice kitchen with everything you needed, a great log burning stove and a very nice homely atmosphere.
The cottages are on a working farm and a great bonus was a farm walk that has been created as part of conservation activity - the walk took in some great views and it was perfect that it was right on the doorstep!
The location of the farm is brilliant, coastal path easily accessible by a short car journey, as well as the heart of the Northumberland National park. Whilst there, the owner recommended a day trip to Edinburgh via train which we did and was brilliant! It was very easy to do and a great way of spending a day in the city. Good location also for exploring Hadrians Wall and Newcastle.
The cottages and the hospitality of the owners was great - we would highly recommend them and look forward to a return trip.

We stayed in stewards cottage. We were a party of 2 family's, 4 adults and 4 children with 2 dogs. The cottage housed us all comfortably. It's a very cosy cottage, probably due to the aga. We loved this and used it not only for cooking but drying clothes. The kitchen is a great size and is really well equipped. There is just one bathroom with one toilet, but this didn't cause any problems as they have a shower room with toilet right next door. The bedrooms are large with comfy beds and nice quality bedding. The lounge is a little on the small side in comparison to the other rooms, and would probably benefit from a little more seating. A lovely communal area to the back, with seating, washing lines and bbq's for everyone to use. The games room is great for kids and the adults. Northumberland is very beautiful and the setting of these cottages doesn't disappoint. For us we love the coast, nothing better than stepping out of your front door and being able to walk on the beach. When staying here you have a 20m drive. It really is out in the sticks! But I would say the quality of accommodation outweighs this. The owners are always around if you need them, but not in your face. I'm sure we'll be back!

We booked these cottages as a travelling party of 10 attending a wedding at Doxford Hall. We booked 3 cottages, The Stewards (3 bedroom), Marian's (3 bedroom) and Haggy Hill (2 bedroom). We arrived at the cottages on Saturday lunchtime and were shown to our cottages, they were what I would call traditional cottages, they were clean and had everything you would need for a fun weekend. Each cottage had nice size kitchens with ovens, fridge/freezer, toasters, pots, pans and anything you need to make and eat you food. All cottages had wood burners, tv, DVD, shower, bath, iron etc.

They were clean and for the price you could not go wrong. There is an electric meter where you need to insert £1 coins, however we only used £1 in the meter all weekend.

There are plenty of walks to do and we will definitely return. However a word of warning if you are going to a party at the hall ensure you book your taxi to get back to the cottages as we had a nightmare trying to sort on the night

Once used to house the farm labourers that worked the land, Doxford Farm Cottages is comprised of eight cottages. Just 200 yards from the barn venue itself, it's the perfect location for your wedding guests. The cottages are tastefully renovated and are made up of a mixture of 3, 2 and 1 bedroom cottages, all in a stone built terrace row. The cottages have comfy sitting rooms with wood burning stoves, fully equipped kitchens (one with Aga) as well as tastefully appointed bathrooms. In total, all 8 cottages can sleep up to 43 people. To maintain exclusive use of the farm, we ask that the accommodation is booked with the venue. As well as the main 8 cottages, we have the Farmhouse Annexe, which is accessible from behind the farmhouse. We also have the West Cottage, which is just a 15 minute walk from the main venue. There is no wifi at the West Cottage, so you get an authentically relaxing break - perfect for short holidays, but is also available to be booked for wedding guests. ... more   less
