What a beautiful area, thanks to the Managers Dave & Theresa for suggesting the rain forest walk to the Arches, absolutely beautiful and the packed picnic just topped it off. What a place to recharge your batteries and a hidden spot of New Zealand's beauty. Great meals and got to enjoy after dinner drinks in front of the cozy fires, great hospitality from staff and locals.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a re-furbished room

Not all changes here seem to be good ones. It's good to see the old place given a facelift in the way of new fixtures and upgraded furniture in the rooms, as the last time we stayed it was looking a bit tired, but the quality of food and personality of the staff (or rather lack of it) doesn't do any favours.
A warm bed, hot shower, decent meal and a friendly chinwag with the owner 2 years ago was much more preferable than our recent stay with new beds, deep fried food and barely an acknowledgement from the manager. Thanks but no thanks.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else.

A group of us dined at Last Resort on Saturday.I can see why this restaurant and bar are so
popular. We were made very welcome on arrival and received great service from all the staff.
Our meals were fabulous, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will certainly be back again.

For anyone wanting to experience Kiwi hospitality at its absolute best, you need go no further than any business being managed by Dave and Betty Watson. If you see their names mentioned, just book and go! We don't holiday a lot because we are also in the hospitality industry but we truly appreciate the effort that these two and their staff go to and the extraordinary amount of hours they devote to making your stay memorable. We were also lucky enough to have Peter Sampson guide us through the Oparara Cave - wow, this is a total must see and such a fun way to learn from a real enthusiast! You will never appreciate more what a stunningly beautiful and utterly fascinating country we live in. Our heartfelt thanks to great hosts and a fantastic guide.

Stayed here for a night on a roadtrip round the South Island. This place has had its problems in the past but has clearly sorted itself out now. The room was fine and the value was reasonable. The staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Great dinner menu (the turbot was superb) , good value and well presented meals.
Make the effort, go to one of the world's stunning regions and start your West Coast trip here!

We stayed in a motel unit after our 4 day tramp, the bed was wonderful and room facilities great. Because we didn't have our own transport the on site restaurant and bar was also a great feature. Our meal was just superb. Very friendly managers and nothing too much trouble

We stayed at the Last Resort Karamea for one night last week on our weeks biking trip on the West Coast and received a great reception from the people running the Resort . The rooms were clean and the roast meal was excellent They are in the middle of changing a few things (building) so this will improve the dining/lounge area We really enjoyed our stay

Room Tip: Try and ask for a sunny room evening sun
