“Wonderful place after a Heaphy Track walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2012

We stayed in a motel unit after our 4 day tramp, the bed was wonderful and room facilities great. Because we didn't have our own transport the on site restaurant and bar was also a great feature. Our meal was just superb. Very friendly managers and nothing too much trouble

We stayed at the Last Resort Karamea for one night last week on our weeks biking trip on the West Coast and received a great reception from the people running the Resort . The rooms were clean and the roast meal was excellent They are in the middle of changing a few things (building) so this will improve the dining/lounge area We really enjoyed our stay

Room Tip: Try and ask for a sunny room evening sun

We spent 3 nights here while exploring the area. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well appointed and made us feel very "at home" for our stay. The (en-suite) kitchen was adequately equipped and made meal preparation easy. The bathroom was excellent. The talent contest in the main bar was a bonus - great fun. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would certainly go back.

Room Tip: The older two bedroom cottages, one of which we had, were on the perimeter away from the main buildin...

This place has the potential to be a great little retreat - unfortunately it needs a bit of work before that can happen. We stayed in an ensuite unit, the bathroom was very dated and rough around the edges. The bedroom was fine - comfy bed. The carton of fresh milk was a nice touch.

We used the onsite bar which was nice, and the restaurant seemed busy although we didn't eat there.

At the time of our visit, we found that the eargerly awaited spa was broken.

For the amount of money the room cost I expected more, hence, do not think it is good value for money. I would investigate other options if staying in Karamea again.

Massive improvement since new managment in Nov 2011. Stayed two nights in a studio ensuite room. Clean and comfortable - great sleep both nights on the comfy bed! Had an evening meal and two breakfasts in the restaurant which were all great!! Friendly staff - will be back again!

Badly in need of restoration after a long hiking trip, we arrived wet, tired and hungry late in the day, with just 15 minutes left till the restaurant closed. Long hot showers were, as any hiker knows, the prime consideration, along with laundry services, to be run in the background while eating the first proper hot meal in six days. The staff, led by front of house receptionist Sarah, prepared and delivered a delicious super fresh fish supper while we soaked. Excellent coffee, comfortable accommodation and best of all a clean shave, made possible with all the shops closed till morning, by a disposable razor Sarah kindly provided 'just part of the service'. After 30years in a global hospitality business I can sincerely recommend the small group of people operating this unique resort, for their genuine unassuming wish to make their guests comfortable, ensuring a relaxing memorable stay.
Thank you again to all the staff who, looked after us so well.

With three friends I stayed here in March 2012. The rooms we were given were spacious, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. Meals were first rate. They served real whitebait patties as only the NZ West Coast can. Wifi is available at a modest price.
The main building is interesting architecturally with some creative use of local timber for its interior decor and some pleasant artistic touches.
Karamea has a good information centre nearby and a range of interesting activities locally.
Strongly recommended.
