Although not terrible, Panshan was a disappointment. A lot of the climb involves pushing your way past other tourists as you pass many recently man-made temples and pavilions. The higher you climb, the more natural it becomes and the better your experience becomes. The views from the higher points of the mountain are the highlights.

The entrance fee of 100 Yuan is very expensive compared to many other attractions (and more natural mountains) in the area and there are also additional costs on the mountain (for the various cable cars).

Given its proximity to Jixian itself, I can see why so many people visit Panshan. However, if you're looking for a relaxing break with plenty of natural scenery , I'd recommend giving Panshan a miss in order to visit some of the other places around Jixian.

Enjoyed it.
A traditional mountain in China, stone steps & bush paths, foot bridges, temples & little kiosks selling cold things in the summer heat.. Stalls at the car park sell little touristy things, a reasonable restaurant & rides for the gondola & RV rides up the mountain.
From the Gondola it's an easy walk down through temples & sheltered valleys. The valleys have small streams, foot bridges & sculpture. The more adventurous with more time can walk upwards to more exposed tracks over rocks & if you have some time, to the temple at the top of the mountain. On the peak above the car-park I was amazed to find a manned little shack with tiny garden with plants clinging to the rocky peak. The paths on the lower peak was good everywhere I went. On the higher rocky outcrops it was never difficult, but not the same easy track of the bushed areas. I have only been in summer, when it was a great day out from Tianjin. The area surrounding Pan Shan has Persimmon trees which look great at the right times.
Sorry, only photos I can find are from 2003. Since then some upgrades have happened.
