La Moriniere
Reviewed November 9, 2013

If you have any interest at all in the history of WWII, a tour with Graham and a stay at the lovely B&B he and Leslie own and operate is a must. I had read books about D-Day and had seen The Longest Day, but I had only a limited understanding of the invasion and subsequent 70+ day campaign in Normandy. After two full days with Graham, I have a far greater appreciation for the historical context and the strategy and tactics of the Allies and Germans. But, Graham offers more. He gently raises moral and ethical questions using small events that occurred in the hours and days following the landings at Utah and Omaha Beaches. Next time, I will visit the British beaches.

Room Tip: There is no "fitness center.". (I checked that by mistake.)

I was referred to La Moriniere (aka Le Bocage B&B) by the owners of a local establishment, and I am certainly pleased to have followed the advice! Graham and Lesley Hollands run a delightful B&B in out-of-the-way 19th century chateau located the Bocage area just north of Coutances.

Anyone considering a tour of the Normandy region would be well-served by La Mariniere, particularly those interested in the military operations of the Second World War.

Mr. Hollands - a retired British Army Major General - is a noted authority on the Normandy operations, and on the area in general. His knowledge and insight were certainly enjoyed by this reviewer. Lesley is a lovely hostess, and one is made to feel at home on all accounts. I look forward to visiting La Moriniere again and would highly recommend it to anyone!
