My wife and I were on a two week road trip around France when we stayed at The Voltaire. This was the second (of three) places that we stayed in, and it was by far the best - so much so that we chose to extend our stay at this hotel in Airvault. There was plenty to do in the area - we visited some Chateaux in the local area, enjoyed tasting the local wines, visited Saumur (a must if you are in the area). This part of France is definitely worth visiting - particularly given that it isn't yet on the main tourist trail.

Marc and Joe were excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The function rooms downstairs were beautiful and gave a very welcoming air of relaxation. The food was superb (we ate dinner in the hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed 3 great varied menus which made use of the plethera of local produce in the area).

The room we stayed in was clean, well appointed and the bed was huge and comfy. The decoration and soft furnishing were beautiful and individual. We had views over the garden and the town of Airvault - which is a couple of minute walk from the doorstep of The Voltaire.

We will definitely be going back to stay next year.

We stayed three nights at the Voltaire, we were welcomed by the owners Marc and his wife Joe, and shown personally to our room which was pleasantly clean with an immaculate ensuite. The lounge area was very comfortable with large relaxing settee's and colour television. The dining area is very large compared to the size of the hotel, the dining room also has a separate seating should you wish not to watch television or just relax in peace and quiet, again on comfortable settee's. Our bed was extremely comfortable. We parked right outside the hotel, with a few metres walk to the entrance. The hotel is situated only a few minutes from the town.

This is the third time we have been to The Voltaire and I didn't think it could get any better but each time we have been we have been bowled over by Mark & Jo's welcome and the stunning bedrooms. To put this in to perspective we were travelling from Disneyland Paris to The Dordogne and we went an hour out of our way to stay here on the way down and shall be staying again on the way back to Caen (which is very much on the way).

The bedroom we stayed in was beautifully desgined with the most fabulous en suite bathroom. Mark welcomed us with a drink and cooked an amazing evening meal and even catered separately for our two little boys (2 & 1). Because of our boys being early risers we wanted an early breakfast for me and them and a later one for my wife...no problem to our generous hosts who provided fresh croissants and pain au chocolat baked that morning by the excellent local boulangerie.

I can't emphasise how much we enjoyed ourselves and how relaxing it was and to make everything really easy I was even able to book our stays on their website (www.thevoltaire.com) was a piece of cake.

Enjoyed a first visit to Airvault where we stayed at The Voltaire, courtesy of owners Marc and Jo Cottrell. We were made to feel very welcome, and treated to delicious evening meals cooked by Marc. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with brand new bathrooms and amazingly comfy beds. The Voltaire is very central - an easy walk to the town centre. Very relaxing.

This was my fourth visit (this time with a friend but I have been with children), and as usual we were made to feel very welcome, nothing is too much trouble whatever the request! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable, for an insomniac it is something of a revelation to find that I sleep without interruption and can get up whenever I want - there is no time limit on breakfast. The food is absolutely delicious and Marc always checks to make sure you are going to like the food he is cooking. It is really good value for money and I would thoroughly recommend this place to couples or families - one of France's hidden secrets!
