Muri Beach Club Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Muri Beach Club in March and it far exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful new resort at the edge of of Muri beach, nestled behind a motu which was perfect for blocking the wind off the ocean. The beach was clean and inviting and the water was as clear as glass! The pool, while rather small ended up being perfect for our stay as only a few other couples were on site. I think I only shared it once!

The room was spacious and clean and despite other reviews, the water was always hot--sometimes scalding hot, be careful! Another word of warning, make sure to watch out for the trigger fish--they bite (nothing serious, but they sure scared me)!! I can't blame them though as it was mating season and we were interfering with their business!

The staff was always curteous and helpful. They assisted us by making restaurant suggestions, booking our dinner reservations, activities, and directing us where to rent scooters for the week. The gentlemen running the water sports center were extremely friendly and helpful. They gave us a history lesson on the island and advised us on the area's best snorkeling spots.

Finally, if you're an animal lover, you will appreciate the beach dogs, especially Chico! They were really fun to watch as they played in the water and sunned themselves on the beach--what a life! Oh, and if you're up for an adventure, stroll the beach at night with a flashlight. You'll see some gigantic crabs and some creepy eels. Definitely interesing to see!

My husband and I would go back in a heartbeat! The Muri Beach Club Resort is nothing short of paradise!

Wonderful!. All the pictures you see on the web site are actually true to life! We stayed in the beach front room over looking the lagoon. It was spacious, clean, and had all the amenities we would expect. If you want you can ask reception to put a movie on for you. The R18 restriction at the resort is the BEST asset. It's not until you go to other hotels that allow children that you realise just how peaceful the Muri Resort is. The staff are all pleasant without being pushy and Mo and Rahj serve a wonderful cocktail in the bar. Jeffrey our Maitre de was attentive, efficient and very friendly. Meals were well presented. The wine list offers a good selection of many NZ and Aust wines. They have live entertainment in the restaurant 7 nights.
All you want re: Kayaks, snorkeling gear etc is right there at the hotel free of charge. David the General Manager is always around and chatting with guests. Liana his assistant is often in the bar and restaurant with guests and helping staff out. Managers who lock themselves away in their office never really know their guests feel.
Would we stay again? VERY DEFINITELY !!

Thank you for reading our review. We are a couple in our early 20's. We stayed at Muri Beach Club for one night as part of our Honeymoon. We got married at The Rarotongan Beach resort and Spa and stayed there for 7 nights, .
We also stayed at The Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa for 7 nights and and Muri Beachcomber for 14 nights. We were in the Cook Islands for a month.

We will keep the writing brief as 'a picture tells a thousand words' , but we have outlined some Great and Not So Great features below:

GREAT:
- Very Clean
- Free Fast Internet
- Modern Bathroom
- BBQ night at the restaurant

NOT SO GREAT:
- Reception Staff were not friendly
- We felt this resort severely lacked the 'island' atmosphere that all the other resorts we stayed at had. It was very white and there were no flowers left in the room etc after housekeeping. We felt as though we were staying in a resort you would find in Sydney not on a tropical island.
- Breakfast Buffet had a very small selection

We would recommend this Resort for people who would enjoy lazing around the pool as the pool area is very nice. We also recommend it for people who prefer a more modern resort to an island feel.

We stayed for two nights and had high hopes from the website and more importantly the price!! We were very disappointed with this hotel. It is very new but service was poor. The reception desk were unhelpful and uninterested. They advertise scooter rentals. We were told they did not do and had to go into town. Website says do haircuts but again when arrived told they don't provide that service. Carried our own bags around. All small gripes but you expect better at this level.

No hot water in shower three days in a row at 5pm. We asked reception to look at after second day. They were to call us back. We are still waiting for the call!

It is trying to be a luxury resort but just does not have it right. The rooms are clean and tidy but they have a cheap feel to them. If we paid half the rate for this room it would have been ok.

Location is ok but is at end of lagoon and other hotels on muri beach have the prime locations.

Would not go back.

Thank you Daz3 from Aberdeen for your comments. We certainly take them on board and are checking who looked after you during your stay. It is our policy to carry your bags for you and we work very hard at keeping service levels up in all areas.
There will always be discussion about location. For instance, some guests like the rooms with the coconut tree in front of them, others don’t. The letter from Globewandering that preceeded yours on this site states that we “are on the most amazing lagoon on the best beach” and we certainly have the prime location on Muri Beach.
I am disappointed that you say you had cold water for 3 days. I am not sure if it was overcast and raining when you were here? We are very environmentally friendly and use solar heating. We only use power generated boosters when the weather is poor. On those days we switch on the boosters twice a day, once being around 4.30pm so guests can have a hot shower before dinner. We do the same at 5.30am regardless of weather. I note you did not say your morning shower was cold. All I can assume is that you were showering either shortly after the boosters were put on or there were several people showering at the same time. Several rooms work of the same solar system.
I do apologise for that and will bring the afternoon boosting forward to 4pm.

We stayed here for 5 nights before returning to the UK from Australia and New Zealand. We, like many others in the hotel (about 20 in total)were only there by accident, having been moved from other hotels because of building etc. The place is lovely with very willing staff, and all very new. The hotel fronts the most amazing lagoon and is on the best beach of the island. We felt the hotel needs some serious marketing to develop its potential not sure how the place can be paying it's way at the moment, and a little more investment in staff training to provide an international standard of service. We would however definately go back and would reccommend it, One point though they should drop the awful black table cloths they put in the restuarant for dinner with black napkins to match. This really does not work in this setting. You cannot beat white linen!

Our first choice hotel on Rarotonga decided to start building works so we were automatically moved to the Muri Beach Club by our travel agents.

We just wanted a hotel where we could relax for 5 days after a long touring holiday of New Zealand.

The best thing about this hotel was the location. Right on the beach of the lagoon which made it good for kayaking and snorkeling.

The hotels pool was also a good place to relax and enjoy the sun.

One of the problems we found with this hotel was that it just seemed very, very new. Everything didn't seem to run like clockwork and we felt slightly let down.

One morning we had an early trip booked and a member of staff hadn't arrived for work so the breakfast had not been put out.
The "in house movies" turned out to be a DVD player at reception and you had to request that they put a film on. They didn't provide you with a bottle opener in your room incase you stole it so you had to borrow one from reception.

The rooms and communal areas in the hotel are pristine and new and souldn't really fault them but I just think it needs maybe a year of running to get them up to speed.

If this had been my honeymoon then I would bof disapointed by the hotel.

The Muri Beach Club Hotel is a new hotel that just opened in November 2005. We stayed there for 8 days. Our room was right on the beach (most rooms are right on the beach front. Muri Beach is one of the best beaches on the island. The water is crystal clear, the weather was gorgeous while we were there. They have a pool, a restaurant on site, and the service is excellent. Room service is available, they will send out our laundry for you for $17 NZ dollars per bag, which was very reasonable and it was returned the next day. Our room had a Queen bed, a sofa, chair/desk, bathroom w/large shower. Very comfortable. The room has an ironing board/iron, hair dryer, hot water pot for making coffee/tea. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
