I hate tourist shows but I was invited by business colleagues and this was one of the better ones. Buffet food was average but that didn't bother me as the entertainment was great. The drumming is amazing and the dancing really mesmerising. The 50 minute show is just the right length and although I know it's a tourist show, that doesn't matter when it's that good!

We booked the cultural village tour as well as the dinner show and enjoyed it thoroughly! The tour around the village was very well thought out and provided me with all the information that I did not get at the Rarotonga Museum. Lots of insight into local fishing, medicine and weaving presented with humour and wit! We had a great time! The buffet was good for our gluten free person and our non fish eater...plenty of choices. The music and dancing were top notch and very well performed. We had a great evening!

Not sure what the fuss is

You walk in and are directed to your seats. You then have a 8 dollar beer which is standard here. We brought out own wAter. The food was pretty good compared to other places and the show was awesome
We have seen cult shows in hawaii and NZ. This was the closest to vegas production show
Our 3 young kids were fascinated, and they loved dancing with the dancers at the end during dessert.
Not sure where you can have a good meal and show for this price plus transfers
All in all wonderful time, will go back

My family and I visited the Te Vara Nui show last week, just for the 2 hour dinner and show (there is longer 4 hour visit around the cultural centre that we did not do but I hear is highly recommended). We thoroughly enjoyed the show, it is a great mix of authentic Cook Island traditions and providing modern entertainment for us tourists. The setting is just fabulous, with the show being on a central stage, with water surrounding it (which is used as part of the show). The dancers are all very skillful and we loved the costumes. After the show we loved the dancers coming around and getting the audience involved - it raised a good laugh from everyone and gave some great photo opportunities.

The food was everything a place like that needs to be - a mix of Cook Island fair and western food. So if you want to try local dishes you can but its also suitable for those less adventurous people (and children)

Coincidentally we bumped into the owners of this show last night at Auckland airport (the business is 100% Cook Island owned, started by the matriach of the family and they were coming on holiday to NZ). They are the most lovely friendly family and their business is a credit to them.

As long as you realize that this is purely a tourist-spectacle and you know that is what you are signing up for, you should enjoy this. I recommend the combined tour which includes the guided tour of the cultural center, the buffet dinner, and then the over-water show. We learned a lot during the cultural center tour; this was our one "tourist" excursion while on Raro and we felt it gave us a pretty comprehensive overview of the local traditional culture. The buffet had many options for vegetarians and the food was quite good overall. The show was impressive although a bit overblown. It's clear that the people who run this event have developed an orderly system for how to herd the masses through in a fairly organized fashion. I was just surprised that there was no attempt to sell souvenirs, seems that for this to be a bona fide tourist event, the herding should include a mandatory romp through a gift shop prior to the dinner.
