“Absolute relaxation”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

We recently returned from Muri Beach Resort where we were married. What an absolutely tranquil place. The place has a feel of "home away from home", very peaceful and low key. Often it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. There is no feeling of "hustle and bustle" with people checking in and out, or staff scurrying around that you may experience at larger resorts. It's very casual and laid back. The staff are all lovely and friendly and leave you to do your own thing, not in your face trying to sell you tours or trying to secure dinner reservations. The are very helpful when you ask them for recommendations however. The location is terrific! It has a lovely village feel with plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. I would recommend taking a torch if you plan to walk back to the resort along the beach at night, to avoid any stubbed toes. There's a car/scooter hire just along the road and a dairy at the end of the driveway. There's also a pharmacy and a great gift shop about 5 mins walk away. Easy walking distance to TeVaraNui and Captain Tamas Lagoon cruises which I highly recommend, great value for money! Big thanks to Chrissy and her team who took care of all our wedding preparations. Made our day totally stress free which is how it should be. Much love, thank you all at Muri Beach Resort.

My husband and I have debated writing a review this late as we went to Muri Beach Resort back in April 2013. It was a long awaited trip following the Christchurch earthquakes, family tragedies and ill health. We feel however that we owe it to fellow travellers to warn people of wedding parties at the resort as our holiday was totally ruined by one very large young Australian wedding party group that was staying at the same time as us. They contanstly woke us many times a night with loud partying, drunken behaviour, breaking glass and using the pool for things we will not mention. When we rang for assistance the noise debated but only slightly - the owners do not live on the premises. This went on night after night and the peaceful holiday we had been longing for was ruined as we became more and more tired. We chose the resort as it was a smaller - and hopefully quieter - one but this was not so. If we had stayed in a larger resort this type of thing would not have been allowed to happen.
The owners (Jane) did come to see us and tired to put things right but the noise continued after one quieter night and our holiday was ruined. This affected us greatly as we had saved for ages for this long awaited holiday. We were not told there was a large wedding group staying and if we had we would have booked elsewhere. We were going to move halfway through our stay but the staff wanted the chance to 'put things right' but this did not happen long term. We now realise (after asking staff) that Weddings at Muri happen very frequently and advertising in the Australian market is ongoing. Whilst the wedding is going on the deck over the lagoon etc is unable to be used, along with other resort facilities. We love a wedding, just as anyone does, but not on our long awaited holiday when we needed peace and quiet.

In addition to this our bedding was dirty upon arrival and the unit needed some other cleaning as well. We had to wait until the next day as the office was closed. The staff did try to make up for these issues but the holiday was ruined by then and this has put us off returning to Rarotonga and especially to Muri Beach Resort.

Thank you for taking the time post a detailed report regarding your stay at the Muri Beach Resort [April, 2013].
Although it is always a delight to read comments from our Guests as to their positive experiences, we also sincerely appreciate being informed of any less positive experiences our Guests feel the need to bring to our attention.
Due to the Resort’s magnificent beach-front location, wedding couples are indeed inclined to want to have the formal wedding ceremony on the beach, on our Lagoon View Deck or on one of the small islands in the lagoon in front of the Resort. These ceremonies are always very short, and in reality provide more viewing entertainment than annoyance to our other Guests.
The ‘less than considerate’ Guests that you have referred to were indeed in Rarotonga to attend a friend’s wedding, however, the actual wedding celebrations were not held at our Resort. These particular Guests attended a wedding at another venue; and after returning to the Resort, were disinclined to stop the ‘party’; choosing rather to ratchet the frivolity up a few more notches - fuelled by the simultaneous consumption of duty-free alcohol that they had brought with them.
As we are unable to vet the social habits of our Guests as a prerequisite to their arrival, we [as well as our Guests] can unfortunately [on the odd occasion], be exposed to the behaviour of a few, which potentially disturbs the peace and quiet for others.
At the time of your stay with us, Jane did immediately speak to the Guests that had been the source the noise level that you found unacceptable, and although [ by your own volition], this intervention did have some temporary affect, it regrettably did not garner their extended cooperation in the matter.
In an attempt to improve the quality of your stay, significant intervention was carried out on your behalf behind the scenes by both management and staff. Further to this, a credit of 4 night’s accommodation was applied to your account, as well as a complimentary Lagoon Cruise Day Trip and Lunch provided - a gesture of goodwill by the Owners to provide some form of meaningful recompense for your inconvenience.
We appreciate your understanding of the Resort’s predicament regarding your unfortunate experience, and trust this will not deter you from visiting us again in Paradise – thereby providing yourself with the opportunity to experience the relaxed and tranquil ambiance that the Muri Beach Resort is so well-known for.

Location is excellent, easy walking distance to several good restaurants and great beach for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking. Staff really friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Owners Jane and Paul were helpful and friendly. Resort small enough with only approximately 20 rooms so a nice feel and not overcrowded. We would certainly return.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of very good standard and none are too far from the beach. Not a huge resort so al...

We have just returned from 11 nights at the Muri Beach Resort. We had the best time, the staff were fantastic, especially Niki (without the K) in the restaurant area. Warm, friendly people and very helpful. We had a Garden view bungalow, where we had our own cooking facilities, which suited us. We had cocktails every afternoon at Happy Hour, lounging around the pool. We snorkelled, kayaked around the island, rode motor scooters to "Fruits of Rarotonga" for good snorkelling. When it was windy we just went to the other side of the Island for a swim.
would recommend this resort. Will be returning

Booked at the last minute as we needed a blast of warm in the middle of a Sydney winter this was all we hoped for. We love these smaller size resorts over the huge Club Med type! We stayed a week and loved every moment. We stayed in one of the recently renovated Garden View appts and it was just what we wanted. Nice and spacious and even a small kitchen that we never bothered to use. Loved lazing on the balcony and watching the world go by. The beach is wonderful to walk along and the snorkelling (out past the island) was lovely. It wasn't windy when we were there and the weather was brilliant. The nice pool & the Happy Hour cocktails sure are a bonus.
The staff (Queenie, Toby etc) were all very helpful when we needed anything. Everything was super clean and looked after. BTW you need reef shoes for snorkelling around the lagoon.
We kayaked several days and snorkelled every day. Make sure you get to 'Fruits of Rarotonga' a couple of Kms further south (by local bus or scooter) for some of the best snorkelling. Swim out a little further from the beach there and there are some lovely spots.
Overall it's a delightful relax perfect for lovely beach walks and lazing and restoring those flagging batteries. Talking of which I love the fact this resort is off-the-grid supplied by solar panels. One possible negative is that they are expanding the resort building across the laneway. The small size of this place now is a real positive so I hope the future more than doubling in size doesn't spoil the atmousphere.
A lovely resort, a delightful holiday and everything we hoped for.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.
We are delighted you enjoyed your time here. It was a pleasure to meet you both and have you stay with us.
Rarotonga is always a great options when you need to warm yourself up away from the winter weather and recharge your flagging batteries. And our decision to go completely solar (off the grid) was not such a hard one, when we have as much sunshine as we do!
Now just to reassure you in regards to the new resort that will be located adjacent to Muri Beach Resort - this will be a completely seperate resort (to be called Nautilus Resort) and will not change the serene atmosphere and personal experience that you have when staying at our resort. It will however offer our guests another dining option, with a beautiful polynesian style beachfront restaurant
We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

We have just returned from 4 nights at Muri Beach Resort, and had a lovely stay. Queenie is so lovely & helpful! And Toby was a gem also. The resort is nicely set out & has everything you need. We had a beach front apartment, and wish we had chosen Lagoon View or Garden View, as those units were larger, cheaper & more sheltered from the wind. Muri Beach is very windy, so our beachfront apartment was very exposed. Other than that, we had a great stay, loved the pool & the cocktails from 4-6pm, met wonderful people, and had a fabulous time. A lovely location, although the beach is less rocky a further down the lagoon. We recommend this resort!

Room Tip: Go for Lagoon View or Garden view.
