After many, many hours of research, we opted for the Muri Beachcomber and never regretted our decision for a minute! Upon arrival at some ungodly hour we were met by the smiling hostess who gave us our room key and took our luggage to the door. We were in Seaview Apt 9 which was perfect – in fact I couldn’t see any advantages of one room over another in the Seaview category. We were met with tropical blooms everywhere (very romantic), a fruit bowl which did us for the week (I put it in the fruit or it wouldn’t’ have lasted so well), a huge bottle of juice & air con (at no additional charge) - in my opinion, a must have.

Amenities – a HUGE shower head with good water pressure, special filtration on the taps so we could drink it (and saved a fortune), beautifully renovated bathroom, comfy queen (I’m guessing) bed and separate lounge area. The thing that struck me was how clean they were – and kept that way. Even the day that we were checking out, our room was serviced. We had an issue with one of the mosquito nets on the windows coming away – reported it that morning and by afternoon it was sorted. The units are in the process of being repainted + new roofs going on in April. Ours hadn’t had a makeover, yet didn’t appear tired. Had a peak at a Watergarden unit, which was larger all round and obviously recently renovated. They would be our choice if we were travelling with our daughter for the additional space they afforded.

The free snorkelling gear (which wasn’t a hundred years old!), the canoes, the laundry with free washing powder, clothes lines between each unit, umbrellas – all saved us money & hassle. The great thing was that MB are agents for Island Rentals (even though they are across the road!) Part of our package included a convertible for 3 days – and after seeing a tourist with scorch mark from a scooter and hearing of another spread across the road, it was ideal. The local bus stops just outside the property which worked well, but a car certainly gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace (and we didnt’ feel as if we were in an oven!) Speak to the ladies about your drivers’ license situation – they are very accommodating!

So whilst the location is superb, fab facilities, the lagoon safe with good snorkelling behind the Island to the right, the thing that set this property apart was the staff. We actually met Talei at a travel show in Auckland and this is why we chose MB, despite there being 3-4 that met our requirements in terms of amenities & pricing. She was genuinely passionate about the Cooks, offered lots of advice & never once “over sold” the place – which couldn’t be said for all those represented we spoke to! We got the impression that we’d be treated like individuals rather than a “booking” – which was so true. Debbie – one of the owners, and Talei on the front desk were a gold mine of information –from the place to buy pearls, (we wanted a souvenir but not a hefty price tag), the best coffee, where the locals preferred to eat and why – all shared like we were old friends catching up. Our trip was for my husband’s 40th – the lovely bottle of bubbles we were presented with on the day went down a treat sitting on the veranda overlooking the water, eating burgers & chips!

Upon departure we were offered the use of our room (FOC) until we were being collected at 11pm – which was a real bonus, even though we were confirmed for a 6pm check-out. (Which wouldn’t have been a hardship with an air conditioned guest lounge with tv, shower, toilet, games + cold & hot drinks). Though being able to lie on the bed and reminisce about our week and dream of another was a great way to end the holiday!

We stayed in a Garden unit and had a truely fantastic holiday. Our rooms were fully equiped and clean. There were clean towels everyday, fresh mangoes & flowers. The beach was lovely with great snorkelling. Sails restaurant, just down the beach, served some of the best food. Staff couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. OJ, the hotel cat, seemed to appear like magic whenever we ate in; great fish & chip shop nearby. Bathrooms had recently been refurbished.
You must visit Aitutaki, paradise!!!!

Had the unfortunate experience of being overbooked in the Beachcomber, but was handsomely compensated for the in convenience and management bent over backwards to make me comfortable and content. The accomodation was lovely and the service professional and thoughtful.
I will certainly make use of the Muri Beachcomber on my next visit to Rarotonga.

This was our very first visit to Rarotonga and staying at Muri Beachcomber has made it so easy to come back. The staff are so accomodating and friendly, our groundsman Arno & his wife were great. Always nice to have clean beach towels each day free snorkling & kyacks were a bonus. The unit we had was always nice & clean & great to get back to after a day of swimming & laxin out. It was very hard to leave after 7 days but the sooner we get back to Taranaki the sooner we get to return to Muri Beachcomber.

Many thanks Sonny & Michele, Taranaki, NZ.

We had 6 days at Muri Beachcomber and loved every minute! We managed to get Seaview Apartment 10 which is closest to the beach - so amazing to wake to the sound of waves gently lapping in the lagoon. Our self contained apartment had a comfy big bed, a spacious bathroom and our own deck table and chairs plus 2 loungers to laze away the days and nights on. Staff and management were outstanding - nothing was a problem for Debbie and her team. The location on Muri Beach is great with amazing views of the motu and plenty of deck space and beach to loll around on. There are canoes and snorkel gear to borrow at no cost and a few cafes, restaurants, shops and car rental places nearby so you're never far from good food and necessities.

It was so sad to leave but we'll be back I'm sure!
