We did the village tour and dinner show. The tour was interesting and the guides funny. Was never bored. Then you go and have dinner and watch the dancing. The food was good, and yes there was lasagne but it was made with local Rakau. I tried coconut marinated "raw" fish which was interesting. The dancing was awesome - I need to get me a skirt like that! I came to Rarotonga on a tight budget (this show was more than half the cost of my accommodation) but it was well worth it! “interesting...more western than cook island”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

we chose Te Vara Nui over other cultural shows because it appearred to be far better, we also did the village tour. We were picked up from our hotel late, but its island time so maybe it was on time. It was a bit disappointing when you first arrive, you are ushered into the bar where you hand over more $$ for drinks... once everyone has had a drink then you go on the tour around the village, which is well done, very informative. Then after this you are seated at the tables for dinner...and again by more drinks. Food was good, but there wasnt a huge amount of what i would describe as traditional island food.... one of the dishes was lasagne. The cultural show was really good, but the dancers all seemed quite fair, and didnt look very cook island.. when we were riding back to the hotel an elderly local lady declared that only three of the dancers were locals...the rest were foreigners!!! bit disappointing, i would rather pay to see the locals, and let them benefit from the tourism...

“Highlight of Rarotonga!”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

We did the combined tour and dinner/show package and loved every minute! The tour is an extremely fascinating trip through Cook Island history and culture. The tour guides are funny and friendly and all natives so they are very knowledgeable. Dinner was delicious. It was buffet style with a HUGE selection of dishes to choose from. There is plenty of food so you can have as much as you want. The show is mainly performed on a in the middle of a lagoon so all 3 dining areas can see. There is some activity on the water surrounding the stage also. It was absolutely outstanding! The dancers & performed were fantastic! The dancers go to the dining areas after the show and do some dancing with the guests. This show is definitely value for money! This was one of the best things we did on Rarotonga! There are plenty of island nights on Rarotonga and I personally think this is THE BEST!!
