We went with Koka Lagoon rather than the better-known Captain Tama's because it left an hour earlier at 10 am and the start time suited us. Any worries that it might be second-rate were banished by the friendly crew and an old-timer -- is he really Captain Bob"s father? Each cruise does the same thing -- snorkelling in the protected area and lunch on the motu -- but Captain Bob's seemed a bit more intimate with its one boat to Captain Tama's frequent use of two.
Just the lunch was worth the price of the cruise, but the coconut tree climbing by reputedly the champion of the South Pacific was amazing.
Everyone was dragged from the passengers at one stage or another to take part in the games and even I, who likes to hide at the back, had fun.

Koka Lagoon Cruises is awesome. We are a family of four (5yr old and 1yr old) and we went out not really sure if it would work with kids and in the heat of the day. The cruise started at 10 am, we went out to the marine reserve and swam with the crazy fast Trevally and butterfly fish. The guys running the trip were so helpful and took both the kids out swimming which gave me and my husband the opportunity to snorkel around. We then went onto the little motu (island) and the the most fantastic lunch! They were great about gluten-free options. They also did this brilliant 'coconut show' which i hadn't expected but we got to watch the South Pacific champion for coconut tree climbing zip up and down a tree in 8 seconds. This was the best experience and so cool for the kids, it was my 1yr olds birthday that day and they even sung him happy birthday with an epic ukelele extravaganza! They also donate part of the sales to marine conservation in the area. Biggest thumbs up ever.
