I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone which is looking for 5 star rating
The Cook Islands are a fantastic place to visit, not too commercial and the people are really friendly.

My husband and I travelled to Rarotonga in November for our honeymoon. This was our second trip to Rarotonga and we cannot say enough about the Te Manava Villas and our overall experience. Our villa was absolutely gorgeous and totally private. The pictures that are shown on the web were very accurate - it is always nice to arrive somewhere and realise that the pictures were recently taken and not several years old. The villa was very clean and it included everything that you could possibly want. The concierge - Elaine, is just delightful and made our stay even more enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for Elaine and it was a pleasure to catch up with her each day. Elaine is more than happy to organise tours, vehicle hire, restaurant bookings etc and she is also very respectful of your private space. Thanks Elaine for everything!!
The location of the Villa is to die for and the view has to be experienced to be believed. There is nothing more beautiful than waking each morning to the sound of the ocean and realising that it is just outside your window.
Te Manava is the ultimate in romance and luxury and we highly recommend it!

My now husband and I decided on Rarotonga for our wedding and it was the best decision we have every made!

We stayed at Te Manava in Beachside Villa One and the moment we walked in we had to keep asking ourselves if it was real.
Everything about the place was luxury, the room, the view, the service, you couldn’t ask for more.
Elaine at concierge went above and beyond from the moment she picked us up at the airport, she was a treasure!

I could not speak highly enough off everything and don’t have a bad word to say about Te Manava or Rarotonga itself, any questions I would be happy to answer :-)

I have added some pics of the room and the fantastic view and for those wanting to get married I have added another review all about the wedding!

A couple of tips...
1. The moment you arrive take you watch off, you don’t need it! And it will help you settle into raro time.

2. Best fish and Chips ever is behind the fishing club, sold out of a converted old boat. Sit on the desk with a beer eating the yummiest fish n chips watching the whales go by..BLISS

3. Best local place to eat..the Whatever Bar and Grill....simple setting, mingle with the locals and awesome food..not to mention CHEAP!

4. Best sunset cocktails and dinner...the Waterline Restaurant, as you will see from the pics, sitting in a deck chair on the back with your cocktail watching the most amazing sunset...you can’t beat it!

5. Check out Deli Foods for yummy freshly baked breads and pastries..so good for a quick breakfast.

6. Dont bother with your mobile phone..they don’t work and its fantastic!

In our opinion the Te Manava website is totally misleading. Instead of showing couples staring romantically at the beach or relaxing by the pool, they should show a beach full of rowdy kids and chldren leaping, screaming into the pool.
We stayed in the Presidential villa for 7 nights. For the first 2 days it was just as portrayed on the website - heaven. But, we awoke on the third morning to find that a family of five - yes 5!!! (including three very noisy children - one of who had an ear splitting screech that she could keep up for hours) had moved into the ultimate beachfront villa next door. We were awoken by screams coming from the beach. When, after an hour or more, they moved off the beach we expected them to go to one of the garden villas but, to our horror, we discovered they were next door to us. We complained, several times, and things would quieten down for a while but the noise would eventually erupt again. Our holiday was ruined.
It is such a pity, as the Presidential villa really is gorgeous. No expense has been spared and it has absolutely everything you could want (except peace and quiet). The furnishings, artwork and gardens are a delight. All of the equipment is of good quality with a big fridge and freezer providing constant ice. The BBQ area is great, with it's own sink and plenty of bench space. Lots of serving dishes and platters and heaps of glassware. There is a seperate sound system for the living areas, the courtyard and even a DVD player in the upstairs dressing room so that you can listen to music while soaking in that wonderful bath. No CDs but people have left plenty of books. And the villa lighting is an arwork in itself - palm trees beautifully spot lit outside, subtle lighting in the garden beds in the courtyard and the pool, romantic lighting in the living areas if wanted but also plenty of bright light if that's what you prefer.
It seems that the owners have spent so much on the villas themselves that nothing is left over for service. I agree with the previous reviewer that the lack of even a few teabags and coffee sachets to get you started is taking meanness to the extreme. They are all available in the mini bar but at such exorbitant prices I'm sure no one uses them. We ordered the starter pack and the basic grocery pack but they were a waste of money. We also ordered the Bulgari toilettries as it didn't sound as if there would be anything if we didn't and, sure enough, just a couple of measly bars of soap came complimentary. Not even a shower cap. The BBQ pack, however, we thought was very good value.
So, if you are a large family and not looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay, this could be the place for you. After all, if they allow 5 people in a beachfront villa, goodness know how many they would allow in the Presidential villa. What was an expensive indulgence for two people would be positively cheap for a family of 6 - or 7 or 8!!!
Not that I would have thought it is an ideal place to take children thought. The water in front of the villas is very shallow and rocky and, all the time we were there, very windy and choppy. We preferred the beaches on the other side of the Rarotonga Resort where there were less rocks, the reef was much closer and there always seemed to be much less wind and the water was smooth.
If the rest of our stay had gone well, these other niggly points wouldn't be worth mentioning. As it was they just added to our annoyance. We were told when we arrived that the villa would be serviced half way through our stay. The website doesn't mention this but, having been told it would happen, we were expecting it. It never happened. A request for extra garbage bags took 2 reminders and 24 hours to arrive. When we rang for help to pull our rather heavy conoe back up the beach after we had used it there was no repy as the office was shut (the office shuts every day at about 4 and miday on weekends). You can ring the Pacific Resort but we just struggled on our own and didn't use the canoe again.
And, finally, the garage, which is supposed to be part of the Presidential villa, was not available to us as the owner had parked his vehicle in there and gone away with the key. When we were told this on our first day we where quite happy to park in front of the villa (even if this was somewhat inconvenient for other guests) but it now seems just another example of the distain that the owner shows towards the people who have paid a lot of money to stay in his villas.

At $700 NZ per night one would at least expect to have tea bags and milk included - but oh no that is not Te Manava's "concept". The "concept' is based on the premise that the room is really worth $1000 per night but all services are removed and charged as extra so you may receive this "bargin". Sorry but I don't agree Te Manava! Honestly an extra $150 per day to have your room serviced, no breakfast included, not even a tea bag. Staying at your resort was a special treat for my honeymoon and has been tainted by an opportunity for more money to be made by the establishment. I have been fortunate enough to be well travelled and stayed in some magnificent luxury accomodation and never experienced such a blantant attempt to make more money from customers.

We stayed at Te Manava in Beach Villa #1 for 4 nights over New Year’s Eve 2009. It would have been 10 if we’d been quicker deciding to book – to our great loss.

If anything the pictures on Te Manava’s website understate the beauty of this place. Villa #1 is outstanding – spacious and beautifully finished kitchen, bedroom and facilities, your own pool (not big enough for laps but you’re only steps from Muri lagoon), plants provide a privacy screen between your private deck and the beach. Totally quiet and relaxing. Te Manava is perfect if you want a beautiful and lux spot to unwind with plenty of privacy.

The villas are managed by Pacific Resort Rarotonga which is a 1.5 km walk down the beach (stayed there as well). The staff there were always helpful, cheerful and responsive to any issues / questions we had. In particular Elaine, our concierge, Ani in reservations, Augustine and Charlie in the bar. But all the local people we met were friendly with a ready smile.

There is a marine reserve slightly south of Te Manava (200 metres?). There is a coral bottom at this point in Muri lagoon and reef shoes are needed. Our first morning we went snorkelling before breakfast and encountered a green turtle that didn't seem to mind our presence tolerating us swimming along within a couple metres of it. Lot's of small fish and bright blue starfish. Plenty of territorial parrot fish that will come up and butt you if you get too close to their piece of the reef.

We had a couple of minor challenges with water pressure and WIFI internet access – both of which were resolved quickly without fuss.

Pacific Resort will arrange breakfast, dinner and other supplies including a private chef. We got one breakfast and a BBQ pack for convenience but would probably not repeat - no complaints about quality or amount of foods (there was heaps) - would just choose our own next time.

We did not rent a car and relied on the local bus for transport. The bus is reliable, fun and you get to see the local sights.

Local restaurants we enjoyed and would recommend – Tamarind House, Trader Joe’s and the restaurant at Pacific Resort. Stefano’s (next door to Pacific Resort) is reported to be very good but was closed for the holidays while we were there. The level of service we had at all the restaurants and bars we went to was very good - friendly staff, prompt service (but not intrusive) and no tips expected. We did tip - generally rounding up to the next $10 amount. Restaurant meals generally cost about what we'd find in Melbourne but were in $NZ so actually about 20% cheaper.

Te Manava is an amazing place and we will be back. Next time will do a week at Pacific Resort on Aitutaki followed by a week at Te Manava.

One of the most enjoyable stays we’ve had in 30 years of international travel.

This review is based on the Presidential Beach front Villa. The villa is in a great location with the Muri Lagoon straight off the deck., Inside, the villa is beautifully designed and fitted to the highest quality.

The service was great with Kathrine Marsters doing a great job of being available without being intrusive.

Overall would highly recommend Te Manava.
