“A fun steam train ride”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

We stumbled on this steam train by accident - if you plan to go, look in advance when there are steam (rather than diesel) trains running, if that is your objective.

45 minute ride through very pleasant countryside. Very helpful staff, volunteers who are committed to the railway. Reasonable price of 12 Euros return for an adult. The only problem, if you start from Mariembourg, as we did, is that when you are arrive at Treignes at the other end, there is nothing much to do except visit the museum or the cafeteria, as you are a long way out of the village. We may have done better to get off at one of the intermediate stops.

But all in all a very pleasant afternoon, especially, if like me, you love steam trains.

“Friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

Unfortunately I didn't have time for a train ride, but the staff were friendly and you could wander around the impressive collection of locomotives, free of charge, and without any 'Health and Safety' signs you would find in England.

The museum is not signed well from the SNCB station (though it is common sense - follow where the tracks go) and the historic line's trains don't connect well, so plan your day carefully (which I didn't) if arriving by train to Mariembourg.

“Great historic trains!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Great historic trains are kept alive here! One of the only places in the country where you still can view a turning platform for trains.

“An Fun Afternoon with Belgian Steam Trains”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2008

Mariembourg Belgium is an unlikely setting for this interesting collection of working steam trains. We visited the CFV3V with our children (aged 6 and 9) for a steam train ride to the railway museum in Treignes and back. Timetables are posted on the CFV3V website, and are colour coded for the type of equipment scheduled to pull the train. Some runs are by diesel autocar, others by steam engine. We reserved our seats by e-mail.

The main attaction for my son was the ride on the vintage carriages pulled by a 1940s steam engine. The staff, volunteers and conductors were all very friendly and helpful. Being Belgium, French and Flemish/Dutch were the languages most spoken--the CFV3V website also has English webpages.

The station in Mariembourg has a small coffee and souvenir shop, As a note, Mariembourg has a limited selection of restaurants, so we ate before in nearby Couvin.

The steam train museum in Treignes is small and can be managed in about 30 minutes. It has a nice collection of engines and wagons in a covered building. There are also special events where the engines are brought out and fired-up--dates for these are also on the website.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable excursion. Total time spent at the attraction was about 2.5 hours.
