It's just a few hours journey from Tokyo if you take the shinkansen. You have an amazing view of Mt. Fuji and its a great place to ski or snowboard. It's a bit expensive to rent the ski's and gear through but the place is great!

If you want to go play in the snow somewhere within about 90 minutes drive of the Tokyo area, this is a great place. It can be crowded at times, but if you get there early and leave early, it is good. Also, if you want to have a small place to learn to ski or snowboard, this is also good. And lastly, if you just want to go sledding and play in the snow with the family, this is a great choice for a day away from the city.
For sledding, you can do that with a sled rental and lunch for 1,700 yen. If you have your own sled, it is only 1,200 yen. If you just want to enter the park, it is just 600 yen. So not bad at all of a day of fun. Then if you are driving from the Tachikawa area, the tolls will be about 1900 yen each way on the Chuo.
Overall it is not a super large ultra ski resort, but if you just want to go hang out in the snow and maybe begin skiing or snowboarding, then this is a good choice.

For first time experience fujiten has all u need. There are group lessons as well as individual lessons for first timer skiers. But if u can manage on your own there is a dedicated place with very gradual slope to try.

Sled area for younger kids as well as parents is also available.

Equipment rental is easy and reasonable priced.

Let me first say I'm not a skier or snowboarder--this was my 1st ski experience so my views may be low because I'm not exactly sure what the "happenings" are for a top-notch ski resort. This place was really clean, nice clean locker room with 4 massage chairs that you course use for ¥100, also the lockers are ¥500 and you have to pay this each time you open your locker-we paid quiet a bit that day just in locker fees. There were a few different spots to eat but my family & I brung lunch so I can't speak on food prices. There is a beautiful few of Mt. Fuji from the ski area..there is also a kids park area that will cost you ¥600..because we did not have small children I'm not sure what's involved with this area. My son frequented the lifts and really enjoyed snowboarding down..that's is ¥4,500 for a day pass! Overall we enjoyed the experience and would go back if skiing was something we enjoyed!

This is a small snow resort and just perfect to take little kids to. They have a kids section that is blocked off and you just pay to go in there. They have sleds for rent for Y500.
You can also pay for your entrance fee with a meal included. Your choice will be curry rice or "ho-to-" like udon noodles in stew type of thing. I decided on curry rice over noodles. Just prefer rice over noodles. But they did have other foods on their menu.
The best part of that place is the beautiful view you have of Mt. Fuji right in front of you. So beautiful. The kids enjoyed it. Oh, they had a "walking" belt that you step on so you don't have to walk up the hill.
