This is a really friendly, well equipped hostel. Great kitchen/common area. Able to give advice for the local area and onwards travel. Great hostel, all needs met. It's expensive by hostel standards but ok for Japan.

This is a great place to stay to explore the Mt Fuji area - it's a pity we didn't hav emore time there. The room we had was very clean and Japanese style with futons stashed away in the wardrobe. With two of us there was plenty of room - might be a bit cramped with four. There's a TV in the room if that's what you want and the toilet and shower-room are at the end of the corridor. There's a large kitchen with fridge, cookers and utensils on the ground floor and a dining room adjoining - all you need to make your own dinner.

When we arrived at the train station, the Information booth receptionist telephoned K's and they sent a car to pick us up. It's only a fifteen minute walk but you need to know where you're going!

There's a good supermarket five minutes' walk around the corner - you can by cheap salmon there and cook it for dinner. The road bridge across the lake is three minutes walk away.

Lovely place full of hikers, so be prepared for some unexpected entrances to the dorm room at all hours. But if you're prepared for that, then this hostel has it all - nice staff, bicycles, useful information about hikes / excursions and an adjacent bar / restaurant that makes up for there not being a restaurant at K's itself.

My husband and I stayed in the Japanese style room for two nights during our recent trip to the Mt. Fuji area. I definitely recommend the Japanese style room because you feel that you have a lot more space; futons are pulled out from the closets for sleeping. There are 2 washrooms and 2 showers per floor, which is okay since there are not that many rooms per floor. The kitchen and common area were large and kept very clean. Free Wifi is available throughout the hostel and the signal was very good - never lost connection! Luggage storage in a locked room is available at 100 yen per piece. This can be very handy if you plan to do an overnight hiking trip on Mt. Fuji (We hiked up Mt. Fuji and stayed on the mountain overnight to see the sunrise). I really liked that there was a shuttle available to pick up guests from the Kwaguchiko train station. Though the train station was not far (~15 min walk), it definitely prevented travelers from being lost and having to wander around the town with their luggage! If you do require a lift to the train station upon checkout, I do recommend that you reserve your spot on the shuttle sign-up sheet upon check-in (the last shuttle is at 11 am) for it can fill up quickly. All the staff were very friendly and very informative when we had questions. Also, the hostel doesn't have a lift; so if you have a large bag - be ready to carry it up 1 or 2 flights of stairs! Overall, we had a great stay and would stay there again if we traveled to the Mt. Fuji area again.

Room Tip: Japanese style rooms are great if like space! Ideal for couples.

My partner and I stayed in a Japanese style double without bathroom and were very happy with the stay, one down side is the bathrooms don't seem sufficient for the amount of people.

The kitchen and chill out space are very good sizes though and plenty of PCs to use the Internet.

We did an afternoon tour on their bus which was brilliant and well worth the money.

Would recommend but maybe choose a room with a bathroom if your going in a busy season :0)

Brilliant hostel! Even more amazing staff!
At first, I had considered hostels that were closer to the train/bus station, but having come from K's Oasis in Tokyo the day before, and being so impressed with the quality there, I decided to try quality over 'convenience' and the short walk was definitely worth it!
(K's Fuji runs a pickup service - a definitely plus for families or those with more awkward luggage)
The standard of the hostel and the service surpass all expectation, at times one almost forgets that it is in fact a hostel; the rooms are gorgeous, my room had sliding doors, tatami mats and the balcony overlooked the onsen (recommended!) right next door. The modern facilities never lose touch with the Japanese details.
The Common room/kitchen/dining areas are really nice, and the House bar next door offers great service and a nice place to unwind.
I can only say the best thing about the staff who will go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible!
So whether it's making it your home-base for climbing Mount Fuji, or exploring the many different things to see and do in the Kawaguchiko area (biking around the lakes, sake brewery touring, eating local houtou or hiking trails to name a few), I highly recommend K's House Mount Fuji as the hostel to go to for backpackers and families alike.
I will definitely go back on my next visit!
