We stayed here in April for 4 nights, it's the first time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hostel. We were a bit shocked at first glance of the room - there were only mats and a small table in the room - we thought we had walked into the cupboard..anyway, the staff were great, they transferred our bags to Kyoto and they were there for our arrival. We didn't try the Japanese breakfast, and weren't too keen on the continental either. We went on the boat and cable car trip, we got the tickets in the railway station. The views from the hotel are spectacular.

Superb location opposite Kawaguchi-ko railroad station. Friendly and helpful staff. Internet lounge in basement. Good showers. Hotel looked pretty old, worn and dated. A bit of an Eastern Bloc (Soviet) feeling. Excellent Japanese breakfast for 700 JPY. About 20 min walk to lake.

Immediately across the road from the station, with a room that looked out at Mount Fuji and a hot tub that did the same - we were very pleased with this little place. 5 star luxury it isn't, friendly, handy, clean, good value and Japanese it is! Take my advice and try the Japanese breakfast - worth every last one of the 700 Yen you pay for it.

The room was really spacious, the wifi is good, overall very happy during my stay there. Unfortunately during my 2 days stay, the cloud covered mount fuji since early morning til late in the evening, so I wasn't able to see the mount. However, the room and the onsen bath upstairs paid up everything. Highly recommended.

Kawaguchiko Station Inn is situation right across the Kawaguchiko station … barely 2 minutes walk away. Furouka-san ( the hotel Manager and owner, I believe ) had been so helpful in providing related web links for travelling from Tokyo. I arrived on a rainy day, totally disappointed because Mt Fuji was not visible at all but, the warm greetings and assurance from Furuoka-san that Mt Fuji should be visible from my room the next morning, changed it all. My room was small and clean as expected of Japanese hotels and ryokan. But, there was free, high speed WIFI. And as assured, I opened the windows the next morning to be greeted by the cool autumn breeze and the magnificent Mt Fuji. The view was totally AWESOME. Another big plus of Kawaguchiko Station Inn is the small onsen at the top floor. It is very well kept and had all the required amenities. For just USD60, I enjoyed unparallel convenience in the location of the hotel, experienced superb service and more than decent amenities, and definitely one of the most memorable moments in my journey in life …. waking up to Mt Fuji on a beautiful autumn morning.

Room Tip: Kawaguchiko Station Inn is small. So book early to get the room with view of Mt Fuji. Room with vi...

Our group of 4 booked a private traditional Japanese room at a reasonable price. Booking was pretty much hassle-free through Hostelworld - the inn recommends booking through this portal. Email correspondence with the station manager was also prompt and he was very polite.

Checked in at 6+pm and there were no problems. Our room had a very traditional ryokan feel to it - the floor was covered with tatami mats, there were sliding doors inside the room, there was a tea set on the table, and we slept on futons. It was a really traditional Japanese sleeping experience so the pillows were really more like small hard beanbags, which may be a little hard to sleep on if you are not used to it. The room was a bit of a squeeze for 4 people but if you don't mind the squeeze, it is really alright.

Our room had a breathtaking view of Mt Fuji, which can be clearly seen in the mornings. There were 2 shared shower rooms on the 4th floor, which were clean and hot water was available. There is also an onsen (one for each gender) on the 4th floor, which similarly has amazing views of Mt Fuji. There are also communal toilet facilities on each floor meant to be shared by everyone on the same floor. These were also generally clean despite many guests sharing them. Towels, slippers, hangers were provided in the room, and each of us was also given a yukata to wear within the inn - a nice traditional touch. The room was made up each day, and the inn staff helped us to rearrange our futon beddings neatly as we were initially unsure of the order in which to lay the futon layers.

Breakfast was not included in the booking. However, Japanese breakfast set can be pre-ordered with the staff by 7pm the previous night. As we were staying there over New Year, the inn's restaurant had a special New Year kaiseki. We were really impressed by the intricacy of the breakfast set - the many small dishes were very meticulously prepared and was well worth the price we paid. There is Wi-Fi provided on every level of the inn, although it may be rather intermittent when you are in your room. There is also a basement communal lounge where you can try on kimonos, drink free coffee/tea and access computer terminals with internet.

The location is the best selling point of this inn. It is located just across a small road from Kawaguchiko Station, barely 1 minute's walk away. This is especially important if you have a lot of luggage and you do not want to lug them around in the cold when it's winter. It is a 5-10 minutes walk away from Lake Kawaguchiko, where there are attractions such as the Kachi Kachi Ropeway. Surrounding the inn are some restaurants and souvenir shops. The main highlight is of course Mt Fuji, and you can get amazing and clear views of Mt Fuji from everywhere within and around the inn.

For the price, the location, services and amenities were excellent and probably unmatched by other hotels/hostels in Kawaguchiko. I highly recommend anyone else looking for comfortable traditional Japanese accommodation with a good location to seriously consider Kawaguchiko Station Inn.
