Lakeside Kawaguchiko Sunnide Resort

This hotel located far from Kawaguchiko station with the best Mount Fuji view with reasonable price. You can see Mt.Fuji in your room when sunset and sunrise. The onsen have indoor and outdoor with Mt.Fuji view too. Full set of dinner and buffet for breakfast.

The travel place and shop in Kawaguchiko town is closed in 16.30 and the last bus is around 17.15 Recommended to make appointment with the hotel bus transfer. If you stay one night no need to buy Retro bus. You can use Suica or Pasmo card.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 305 Japanese style room with Fuji mt. view.

We stayed for 2 nights at Sunnide for 19000 yen a night for 2 nights - the rate includes breakfast and dinner.
Room was a typical Japanese style room which had a great view of Mount Fuji. It was clean and spacious. The only bad point was that the toilet had a very foul smell from the moment we checked into the room till when we checked out. The smell was so bad that we wanted to request for a room change but because we did not want to kick up a fuss or risk getting our msg lost in translation, we stayed in the same room, hoping that the smell would go away.
Breakfast was great and there was a huge selection of really yummy stuff. Dinner was both appealing to the taste as well as sight. The kind staff at the hotel even helped changed one of our course because we did not take raw fish.
One tip - we took a bus from shinjuku to kawaguchiko and found that this option was both fast (Less than 2 hrs) and also easier (no change of trains required), we highly recc this!

I have been to these two hotel in same year.I really recommend for Sunnide resort. It is better (in my opinion) in term of quality of room and food. I got Lobster sashimi for kiseiki on first night and big steak on second night. While at ubuya (with higher price per person), I got 2 pieces of each meat include beef pork.. anyway the taste are good.

I stayed at semi western style room with private open air bath at Sunnide. ( eventhough it is not mineral water but it still feel good to take bath while look at Fuji). The room is clean and New. I stayed a delux room with Fuji view. it is bigger but older. real japanese style and clean.

Ubuya also have better than Sunnide in term of hotel facilities such as public bath and common area like library;sitting lounge for free tea;karaoke.
So if you plan to go with friends,I recommend to go to Ubuya. but if you want a quiet place good food with your romantic couple, I would choose Sunnide resort. (my review base on room with open air bath at annex )

Room Tip: Choose room at annex only becase it is just renovate.

We instantly fell in love with this place. It’s blessed with mesmerising views of the lake and Mount Fuji beyond it and we spent one afternoon just sitting on our balcony with a few beers, cloud and mountain watching, utterly captivated.
The balcony is what it’s all about, with an open-air hot tub and shower.
The suite itself (‘room’ doesn’t do it justice) is also wonderful, with a sectioned-off comfy white linen bed, a Japanese style lounge with tatami mats, cushions and low table, along with a massage chair and your own yukata and slippers to wear around the resort.
The staff are super friendly with limited but sufficient English.
A delicious breakfast buffet (Japanese and Western options) and beautifully presented exquisite Japanese multi-course dinner were included - the food was another highlight of the resort, also enjoyed in Fuji-facing restaurant and patio.
The onsen is great (if you can prize yourself away from your balcony hot tub), also with Fuji views, but the men’s has a far superior view from the tubs.
They provide a shuttle bus from the town and it’s an easy ride that’s well worth it for the superior Fuji views that side of the lake.
They also offer bikes which we really enjoyed for taking a day cycling around the lake in the sunshine, stopping off at various viewpoints and attractions.
We splurged and stayed for two nights in order to make the most of the facilities (with check-in at 3pm, it doesn’t give you much time with just one night) - proved to be a great decision.
Worth considering the season and weather, as it’s quite an investment and would be pretty disappointing in the frequent times of cloud cover - that said, the resort is fantastic and worth taking a chance on in our opinion!

Room Tip: Definitely worth going for the Japanese/Western rooms with balcony and hot tub, and try to get the h...

We went there this 2nd week of October, 2012 ..just stayed for a night..the location is very good esp the room we stayed #301, but my husband said he thinks somewhere #303 is the best coz its in the center ..but then even in our room Mt. Fuji is perfectly viewed..the lake, too is wonderful to look at..

the place is surrounded by beautiful trees and parking is very convienient, a portal man will meet u in the parking driveway and carry /bring ur baggages, the counter staff are very nice..

the food that time was Japanese washoku, its entirely all Japanese style..very well arranged and we give the rate of the dinner 8.5 out 10..we cannot give a 9 or perfect 10 coz we might over rate it..but the chef were good in handling the food..the place we ate the dinner is located in another place , they have their own diner..it looks like ur eating in a first class hotel restaurant, the ambience, the arrangement they make in the diner, the flooring..its a 10 to rate..the staff in the diner, too were nice..

the breakfast was served in the same place, it was buffet style(baikingu<Japanese term for smosgarborg or buffet or eat all u can), the food again were very sumptuous..they were prepared well even the drinks and the desserts, the bread, the salads and the mains, it was Western and Japanese menu...10 is the rate we give..
the diner is also overlooking Mt. Fuji..

the Hot Spring is also very good, clean and have a very good view of the Mt.Fuji...we went to bathe there many times..even we stayed only for a night..

the rooms, futons, the tatami, the lobby, the hotel lounge they are all good, clean, good ambience..

for me, when ur inside the hotel compound, the mood looks like Karuizawa feeling, for those who have been to Karuizawa thats what you get the feeling..

we were very lucky coz the weather that time was good to fair..Mt. Fuji was good to us thats why we were able to see and view it on a clear day..altho the day before it was like cloudy and not sure if Mt. Fuj will be visible..we took many photos of it esp my husband he just love Mt.Fuji, even we have seen it before in our recent trip the other year..

even there were lots of other hotels in line within Kawaguchiko, we will still come back to stay in Sunnide Resort and will recommend it..
even the price is very reasonable having a good dinner and breakfast(included in the price), the location, the ambience , the hot spring, and the serenity of the place..why look for another place to stay?

overall, we rate the hotel 10 out 10

Although this hotel and the resort town were both pretty quiet midweek and before the summer vacaation season, we could appreciate the attraction of both. The hotel rooms in the main building are set up especially for the view of Mt Fuji across the lovely lake, with a traditional Japanese style experience (tea, tatami, baths).
It's tricky getting to Kyoto from the Five Lakes area by train and the front desk staff was extra helpful in finding a way via bus and train. Service overall was excellent. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully prepared and presented.
