“Hello Fujisan!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2014

After the hustle and bustle of downtown Shinjuku we arrived at Konansou ready to relax. This was our first time at a Ryokan so we didn't know what to expect. The rooms were modern and very spacious. Unlike others we didn't book a room with a bath but it didn't matter as you can book a private onsen that looks out to Mount Fuji which is a fantastic sight!

Included in the price was breakfast and dinner which were huge and tasted brilliant, our host Ayumi was always on hand to help us as sometimes we had no idea what we were eating..

Two nights here was great for us, a day trip to Fuji-Q was fantastic and the place is easy to get to.

Worth every cent and allowed us to unwind before heading back into the craziness that is Japan!

This was a fantastic place to stay for a true japanese experience!! the staff were so lovely and forever helpful. it was so nice to be greeted by them in the breakfast room every morning with the most amazing view of Fuji. The room was clean and the decor was fabulous, and even thought it was in the traditional japanese style, it still has all the essential mod cons. The view over the lake was most spectacular as well the view from the foot baths on the roof. this is a real photographers paradise, every where you look there is a beautiful vista. I would recommed this to anyone looking for a little bit of relaxation during their Japan holiday.

Room Tip: you can't see Mt Fuji on the lake side, but the view is still fantastic. ask for a room on the t...

Hotel Konansou is located in a very convenient spot, just 10 mins walk down slope from Lake Kawaguchiko Station. The hotel is modern and the rooms are so spacious. A treat in Japan, to have a separate sleeping area, a huge living/dining room that overlooks the lake plus a separate toilet, powder room and sunken bathtub. Every thing is well maintained and the free wifi is working well, probably helped by the fact that there was a router outside our room.

Our booking comes with dinner and breakfast plan. The dinner spread served in the room is good with 12 dishes and they were able to accommodate our no beef option. We were given japanese abalones which were very delicious. Breakfast served in a separate hall, was adequate but nothing to shout about.

One thing to note is that the lobby is in darkness before 3.00pm. The service staff will take your luggage and store it. Upon return after 3.00pm, we were greeted warmly as we walked into the lobby with the service staff all bowing and an English speaking staff (female butler) was allocated to us, settling us in comfortably. She is also the one to lay out the dinner and explain the content of the dishes. A nice touch indeed.

The public bath is spacious and there is also a small outdoor pool which offers pretty view of cherry blossoms blooming. Buckwheat tea is provided outside the baths. We did not book the private bath as it was a cloudy day. Mt Fuji will not be visible.

Tip: The Retro bus stop is right outside the hotel so it is very convenient to take it to the northern shores of the lake where you could walk the trails by the lakeside starting from the Kawaguchiko museum. We were fortunate to catch the cherry blossom season and it was beautiful even without the view of Mt Fuji. However, do not note that the retro bus is very small, only can accommodate up to twenty over persons, so on the the way back, check the timing and do not plan on catching the last bus as you might not get in.
There are plenty of eateries and shops near the hotel too, and Kachikachi Ropeway is a nice 10 minutes stroll away. There is also a Lawson supermarket nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor for strong wifi signals. We were in room 406

We stayed at Konansou for one night. After travelling from Tokyo, Konansou provided transportation from Kawaguchiko station and we were picked up within a few minutes. We later realised it was probably about a 10 minute walk from the station heading down towards the lake. Accommodation was beautiful and clean with an amazing view of the Lake, with some restaurants, tourist sites and souvenir stores within a few minutes walk. Service was impeccable and every attention to detail was taken by all the staff we encountered. The rooftop footspa gave impressive views of mount Fuji, and Konansou is walking distance to a ropeway which takes you high above ground to provide a wonderful view over the lake and mt fuji. Onsen was clean, and being new to the experience, having an english guide on onsen etiquette was very useful. We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Konansou and cannot recommend it highly enough. Staff really went out of their way to make you feel at home. Konansou is a fantastic base for visiting the five lakes area, the only negative is we couldn't stay longer.

stay here for 1 night on my first trip to Japan. felt like I should spend more time at this hotel or in this area. lots of things to see and do. the hotel is very nice, with Traditional Japanese setup for our room, which we book one with private onzen. the private onzen bath seems small but actually it's just perfect. the room was spacious, very comfortabel Futon. welcome snack also delicious.
as Traditional Japanese Ryokan, dinner and breakfast was included. our group were seated in a private dining room on 5 floor, with variety of food set. while we enjoy our dinner, the staff had turned down the room to laid out the futon.
Touris bus (called Retro Bus) stop right in front of the hotel. the hotel also provide pickup service from Kawaguchiko Train Station, which is only about 10mins walk. a convenient store also located nearby.
Foot spa on rooftop was excellent, with view of Mt. Fuji. (our room was facing the Kawaguchiko Lake)

Room Tip: room with private onzen is a bit larger than one without onzen.

We strayed in a traditional Japanese style room with private Onsen - well worth the experience and the money. It was an indulgence we were glad we took for one night. Views of Mt Fuji from our Onsen just breathtaking. Service was high quality and food was also nice.

HOW TO GET THERE: Arrive to Kawaguchiko Station by Train or Bus. Go out from the station, and get to the Tourist Information Centre (Opens Early, Closes Early as well from about 8am till 5pm), Ask the Counter Staffs to Call up Konansou for a FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE (If you pre-booked the hotel). Walking will takes about 10 - 15 minutes to arrive to the doorstep and the route is slightly confusing.

STAFFS: They all stand in a line greet you when you arrive at the doorstep! Which made me a little bit of surprise and embarrassed. Very polite, informative and helpful. GOOD SERVICE. You may get the tourist attraction brochure over the check in counter, sometimes they have some discount tickets attached to the brochure. Do not have high expectation regarding the level of English, but still able communicate without issue.

ROOMS: 5 Star ryokan-style experience. I stayed in a mountain-view room (As pictures below). Very clean, adequate size of bathroom, small hot spring tub with 24/7 of hotspring water, very high-tech toilet bowl with many buttons in japanese words, safe. Spend the night sleeping on the floor with mattresses. Outdoor View is totally AWESOME (As pictures below)!

FOODS: Worth every single penny for this hotel (As pictures below). Plentiful for Me. However, if you are still hungry, you can go to Lawson (A 24hr Minimart) 50 metres away from the hotel to get some foods.

FACILITIES: Naked Hotspring Baths, yes NAKED, Female at One floor higher than the Male Baths, "Foot spring" Baths also available. Others facilities we did not manage to have a look.

OTHERS:
Style is very different from all international hotel. After eating they will make the bed for you.
Free Hotel Shuttle Services to Kawaguchiko Station anytime, if it is at the odd hours, maybe you will like to inform them first.
