“Best value for money with serious concessions.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2011

PROS-Proximity to per station(5 minutes on foot).Outstanding value for money (for paris standards of course).Proximity to a supermarket(next to per station).

CONS-i asked for some info sending e mail to the hotel i did not receive any reply. When i asked booking to do that in my behalf again no answer received,. The hotel is far away from paris (20 minutes in the best from gare de lyon which is about the same distance from every major attraction in paris). Moving with per can be very tricky. It is nothing like metro, because each train stops in different stops even in the same line (green line). In the first time it took us three hours to reach the hotel ( maybe because of our fault). It is very easy to get lost especially when going from paris to the hotel( you may ride the green line train but this train may not stop in grigny but in the previous or next stop etc).Outside the train station there are always lots of immigrants walking around and it is very dangerous especially when returning at night.Twice we have been followed by strange guys shouting at us.In the train going to paris is generally ok specially in the morning but returning could be a nightmare.Leaving gare de lyon after 20.00 could be very dangerous specially on weekdays because you can be alone in the wagon something which can be proved very dangerous. In conclusion a value for money hotel in a very degraded area (i think).

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2010

It's about time I remembered to write this hotel up. When my wife and I were wandering Europe on a four-month train, ferry and car journey, we wanted to spend two weeks in Paris. However, the same two weeks were the final weeks of the Rugby Cup and not one hotel in Paris could be found that had any rooms available for the entire time. The only thing I could find at the time was the Best Hotel in Grigny, but it seemed convenient to the RER on the map and our Eurailpass could be used for going into and out of the city.

So, out of the Grigny station, up the hill, cross the road to the local supermarket parking lot, cross the parking lot on a diagonal toward the two hotels (the other was the Hotel Balladins) and cross the busy main highway at the traffic light to get onto the hotel properties. The best was the the hotel farther back from the highway, which was good. Both advertised very low rates--If I recall 49 and 39 Euros, The Balladins has a restaurant and bar five nights a week and it was a simple matter to walk out the front door of the Best, cross the lane and into the entrance of the other. Everyone in both hotels were very friendly, but spoke little or no English. Should you find your way there I only have one caution, Rognons d'Vu on the menu means veal kidneys with mushrooms.

If you have ever stayed in an Ibis hotel, then you know what the Best Hotel is like. The layout and decor in the rooms is exactly the same. But, where the staff at an Ibis is likely to be somewhat cosmopolitan, the Best Hotel staff were local people. The buffet breakfast was typical and abundant. Hordes of polish tourists traveling by tour bus came through during our stay and all made sandwiches to go from the buffet.

It was a five to ten minute walk, depending on traffic to the RER station. Trains came and went very frequently--we never waited more than 10 minutes. Once on the train it was a 20 minute ride into Paris to the Notre Dame area.

The people of Grigny were mostly immigrants. We had many interesting conversations with people from Algeria, Morocco, Ghana, Nigeria, Chad and Turkey among others while riding into or back from Paris. Apparently there had been riots in the community a couple of years before, but things seemed very peaceful to us. In the evening we wandered around the area from Grigny to Ris-Orangis, trying out all the different places to eat. There was a Chinese restaurant owned by a Vietnamese gentleman, an Italian place with young Italians waiting tables and doing the cooking., Turkish coffee shops (with the best strong coffee ever at 90 Euro cents per cup) and delightfully spiced cooking, even a regular cafe in the center of Grigny and ethnic groceries and treats in the mini-mall at the supermarket. There were laundromats and tailors and shoe repair shops. Despite the many language barriers, everyone was friendly and helpful.

Of course we spent most of our days except clothes washing days in Paris. And we saved a ton of money compared to the rest of our trip. If you are adventurous and friendly, know a few French words, you can have a very good time even way out in the 'Burbs.

It was a well priced hotel with safe parking area. The only downside was the terrible location. Recommended for a short stay when you only need to sleep over the night.
