We walked up from the carpark and enjoyed some stunning views.
Once in the castle we first walked around by ourselves with a map of the lay out of the castle. When the crowd was minimized we took the audioguided tour, which was fantastic. We also watched the birds of prey show, which was very interesting. And yes the castle was was the Castle of Eagles in the movie with Clint Eastwood "Where Eagles Dare". There was a nice videofilm about backstage of the movie. From the castle look outs there are some stunning views over the Eastern Alps.

We planned to walk, but were glad for the lift in the heavy rain. Even dogs are allowed, and the audio guide in how many languages I don't know, and the human guide, and the program for kids and... Plus the beautiful vews.

We have visited the place as a family of 5, with 3 grown-up daughters (17-21). The tour is very interesting and educational, although by audioguide. The scenery is magnificent. The bird show was also very nice, lthough the sitting arrangement was less than perfect: We had to sit on a slope of a hill, while most of the show was taking place on the top of the hill. Thus, neither the visibility nor the comfort was ideal. Otherwise, worth the time and effort.

Burg Hohenwerfen was the Castle of Eagles in the movie Were Eagles Dare. It is a outstanding example of what a Castle really is. Its well worth the trip to see it. If your into Castles this is one you must see. This area in Austria is called the Eastern Alps and its outstanding, if you like the outdoors this is the place to go. The wife and I are going again in July 2013 for a month. Vienna is a must.

Burg Hohenwerfen is also known as the Schloss Adler, the Castle of Eagles from the movie Were Eagles Dare. Its a super well-preserved Castle, one of the best.
The falconry show was very interesting and enjoyable. You have to wonder how they got all the materials up there to build the castle. The wife and I are going on vacation again in July 2013 to the Eastern Alps area. Not without going to Vienna.
We will take side trips from Vienna and Salzburg to view areas throughout Austria.
