I wouldn't go to Werfen just for this, but it was interesting to do after the ice cave. The falconry show wasn't that great - but the audioguides were great.

Was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful and well-preserved castle. The tour was very thorough and interesting with visits to the dungeon and torture rooms....very cool! The falconry show was excellent and a must -see if you visit the castle. Great views and gorgeous backdrop with the Austrian mountains, clouds, and valley views.

Drove to the Castle from Salzburg airport. Took about 30 minutes, through some very scenic terrain. Lofty mountains, tunnels, etc. The town of Werfen itself is quaint. Pleasant ride up the tram; Watched the mock swordfight show, had a beer, went through the weapons exhibit, Then we walked DOWN to the falconry. I hadn't expected such a steep hill. No falcon show going on, so we walked through the falcon exhibit, which was mildly interesting. Then a long, steep hike back up into the top of the castle. Very steep incline, and tough on such a hot day. Really great views from the top. Enjoyed seeing where the "Eagles" movie scenes were filmed.

A lovely steep walk through the woods (a lift ride is available) with views to admire the town of Werfen below revealed a stunning fortress wonderfully maintained. The tour covers everything, even a climb to the very top of the bell tower. It is a very well done tour and the falconry museum and the show with the birds should not be missed! We stayed an apartment in Werfen with the fortress as our major view. Thinking we shoud visit it, Hofenwefen was one of our very favorites in the entire area.
