“Wow A great hotel”

I managed to grab the monsoon deal going on in Fort Aguada Beach Resort around the end of August. And I must say it was worth every penny I spent. I had managed to zero in on this Taj owned resort after doing a rigorous amount of review reading on internet. This trip was quite an important one for me since post wedding this was my first trip to Goa and it was actually planned to celebrate my wife's birthday. The location of the resort itself was fabulous. The check in process was pretty smooth. I had opted for one of the sea view rooms, and it was mind blowing indeed. We checked in at around 4 pm and headed towards the lounge bar facing the sea. A real good place to chillax. The best part was we could utilize all the facilities of Taj Resort, which was a few hundred meters away. And there is a shuttle service between both the resorts running at the customers’ disposal. In the night we headed to Caravela in Taj, where the buffet was so-so. Surprisingly when I expressed my dissatisfaction towards one specific dish, the waiter was so very courteous; requesting me to order any other dish to cool down my taste buds. After 9.30 there was a DJ churning out some commercial bollywood tracks, to my utter dismay. They could probably do with a better DJ. We ended up heading towards Mamboz. Since it was my wife’s birthday the next day, I had ordered a cake through one of the staff on the day I had checked in. Promptly at 9 in the morning, one of their housekeeping staff knocked on our door and got us a wonderful birthday cake (which was complimentary!). The next day we headed to the private beach, which was not all that great. It could be maintained in a much better way. But the fun factor was not missing. We had a good time exploring every bit of the private beach. All in all, it was an awesome deal. And I am surely looking forward to hit the Fort Aguada Beach Resort again next year!"

Fort Aguada Beach Resort is located on the cliff overlooking the beach in North Goa. The location is on top of a cliff which gives amazing views of the coast. There is a small private beach however it’s nothing special and the real action is on the Sinquerim beach with all kinds of water sports available at very reasonable price. Taj group offers few banquet facilities on the private beach which are priceless and worth the extra spends.
The hotel pool is rather small but offer great vies of the sunset and you would really enjoy the sun while soaking in the pool. The Café is delightful with a good choice of menu and food that you would expect from Taj. What amazed me was the hospitality offered to everyone that visited the café and on a slow night the chef did rounds to take feedback on the menu.
The open air bar is amazing and overlooks the sea with fantastic vantage points. Almost every seat has an uninterrupted view of the sea. There is a small library however I doubt anyone would read with the sights around.
The fitness center is located outside the hotel which was rather annoying and to use it you have to visit the next door property from Taj – the holiday village. However the facilities are up to date. The basic rooms are rather small however most of these are on the cliff jetting out in the sea and offer fantastic back ground music of the waves crashing.
The fort itself is nothing great and not a part of the Taj complex, which also means it’s open to public and maintained by the government. There are local shops around the hotel and few places where a two wheeler can be hire for a day to explore the city.

Stayed here for two nights (after a night at Taj Holiday village).

Plus points:
Smooth check in, superb ambience, pool scene, great views, spanking clean rooms and good location.
The rooms were a notch below Taj Holiday Village, but yet, quite large and breezy.

Minuses:
Extremely expensive... for the kind of money we paid for the rooms, one would expect at least the complimentary breakfast and happy hours at the bar. Not that Goa has any dearth of good places to eat or drink, but it's sad that they didn't even attempt to make a nice package for a birthday weekend.

Also, it's better to book through a travel portal for discounts. When I called the Taj reservations number, they said I could get the "winter rates" (peak season in Goa) for mid-April!

What a beautiful place. And what impeccable service. We had booked Fort Aguada through the internet and found no trouble at all with our booking when we got there. There were complimentary airport transfers with bottles of water waiting for us.

The hotel took our breath away. We had booked a garden facing room, very close to the swimming pool. The pool is huge and has a lot of space around it with deck chairs laid out. At any point there was always a lifeguard/ service attendant ever ready to supply you towels. In fact I had left my hair clip next to the pool one day. The attendant held on to it and returned it to me the next day purely by recognizing as the girl who was sitting on the deck chair next to which he had found the clip. Amazing service.

They have three basic restaurants – Il Camino ( Italian – excellent pizzas) and Latitude. Both also served the same buffet style breakfasts and a third Morisco.

However the bar / café Sfx took our breath away. It had basket chairs and an AMAZING view of the sea through large windows. Our afternoons were spent just lounging there looking out to the sea while dunking beers.

Taj allows use of The Village – their other hotel in the near vicinity and vice versa when you are a guest at either. So you can basically also eat at the restaurants of the other Taj. They provide free transfers between the two hotels.

There are also villas spread around the huge property, perfect if you’re travelling as a group. In fact, since our flight was in the evening they gave extended our stay, but since there were no rooms available they gave us complimentary use of the villa. AWESOME.

The hotel has an amazing view of the sea. A MUST stay if you’re in Goa

Fort Aguada is one of the most beautiful resorts I've ever stayed. Isolated cottages built on the slopes of the hill are really nice. Cottages are surrounded by gardens, though these gardens are not so well maintained. The room was large and spacious. The bed was soft and comfortable. The interior was soothing. The bathroom with two wash basins, bathtub and separate shower area, was spacious and spotless. The garden facing attached balcony with sitting arrangements was a special attraction. There were also comfortable deck chairs kept in the garden in front of cottages. The place was very quiet even in the day time. Far from the crowd and pollution, this is the ideal place to relax in the serenity of the nature. The bad thing was there was only a slit view of sea from our room. The front desk staffs are efficient. The other staffs are also very friendly and courteous. As we check in they welcome us with soft drinks. On our first day of stay when we returned to the room in the evening they surprised us with a chocolate cake. The lobby was also well decorated and it had a breathtaking view of the sea from the terrace. The swimming pool was nice with poolside beds and chairs facing the sea. The Indian, continental and sea food restaurants were very good with delicious foods. There were also various entertainment programmes going on in the evening like Goan folk songs and band performances.
The only big disadvantage of this resort is that, it doesn't have its own private beach. The adjacent beach was very dirty and difficult to access.
There was complementary shuttle bus service to and from the airport, for a convenient and hassle free airport transfer.
I'll definitely stay there again.

We had a wonderful stay at the Taj Fort Aguada for 4 nights. Since it was the monsoon season, we got a fine deal with breakfast thrown in. Tip: The best Taj deals are available from tajhotels.com, and one of the best deals (room and breakfast) is not easily located when you look for a good rates.

The hotel has a fabulous location. And best part of the hotel are the villas nested on the hillock above the fort. We were lucky to get a free upgrade to one the villas. A big thank to you to the folks at Taj who were responsible. As always, the staff at the Taj shone. Everyone from the security at the gate, front desk, housekeeping, restaurant went to great lengths to make our stay memorable. I always admired the staff at the Taj Hotels - especially those who work in the background - the housekeepers, gardeners, the valets - they have something that I do not see in other chains.

Now for some constructive criticism. The resort badly needs a makeover. It is not on the same boat as other Taj properties that we have stayed in. Our villas was built for the 1983 CHOGM summit. While the resort is not falling apart, the age definitely shows. We loved the charm of old villas, but if they could be restored to their original glory, this resort would beat a lot of others places in Goa hands down.

We had breakfast on the house - and we loved it, just like all the Taj Hotels. But the buffets for lunch and dinner should be avoided at all costs if you fancy good food. This property allows you to use all the facilities and restaurants at the Holiday Village as well. That is a nice touch.

If you like the peace and quiet, please be aware that the Aguada and its sister, Holiday Village are chock-a-block with families, lots of loud garrulous ones. Even during the off-season the pool was full. So, our stay in the villas ensured that we were far from the maddening crowd. Despite the crowds, the staff at the restaurants went the extra mile to smile and keep things sane. I do think that the folks at the Holiday Village slipped quite a few times under the strain. The Fort Aguada folks seem to manage better.

To summarize, go the Fort Aguada if you like the charm of an old villas, great views and a wonderful service that comes with any Taj Hotel. This hotel reminds me of someone who has aged gracefully. Past the looks of youth and middle ages, but who is charming and goes the extra mile to make you feel wanted.

The Fort Aguada property which is run by the TAJ group of hotels probably ranks as one of the landmark properties in India. It has an unbeatable combination of the fort, beach and tranquil surroundings which is ideal for any personal or official event. Having been there in the rains, i cannot think of any other hotel which could be so utterly relaxing. Though the hotels swimming pool is decently sized, a better option would be to utilise the swimming pool at the adjacent TAJ Holiday Village. Perfect venue to enjoy the rains at its best ...
