We had an excellent stay at Taj - Fort Aguada in Sep 2012. Its a must choose property due to -
- Beautiful view of sea from rooms, lounge and swimming pool
- Excellent food in a variety of restaurants in Taj
- Extremely prompt service
- Beaches in front of Taj and special view from Fort
- Complimentary access to Taj holiday Village restarant, pool and other facilities, so you get to
savour 2 excellent properties at the price of 1.
- Get a all meals inclusive deal through travel agents and you will have a vow trip :).
- 5-10 mins ride from all popular North Goa hang-outs

If you want to be in North Goa for a peaceful and luxurious retreat, then this is the place to be!

Gaurav

Room Tip: Take the pool level rooms having a balcony with sea view. Good view with easy access to pool!

This was my first visit to Goa and took a weeks off to relax with family. Right from the point we got out of the airport, the TAJ took care of our holiday. A member of staff was waiting to escort us to the coach. It takes an hour to reach the hotel and which is like a windshield tour of Goa. A warm reception and sumptuous lunch awaited. Fort Aguada was strategically located by the Portuguese spread across a hill, therefore the Hotel now commands amazing views of the sea. So, best options would naturally be the sea facing cottages. One can have early morning/ evening walks across the property touching Sun Set Point for a magnificent view of the orange sky over the sea. The staff is very friendly and makes the stay quite comfortable. As the spread of the property is vast and another hotel, TAJ Holiday Village is nearby, there is a facility of free pick and drop between them. One can utilize facilities of both the hotels like swimming pool, restaurants and also enjoy the small stretch of beach at the Holiday Village. Although cottages at Holiday Village are priced quite higher by TAJ (may be due to superior facilities), however I found Fort Aguada had better views and seemed more serene due to its elevated location and expanse. Food and accommodation at the Cottages are excellent. We relaxed for two days within the hotel premises enjoying the pool and the beach. Our actual exploration of Goa started only on the third day. That tells volumes about the relaxed atmosphere there. Hire a Bike available outside the hotel ( its the best and easiest way in Goa) and explore the nearby attractions. There are few activities planned by the hotel like trekking, kids entertainment etc....which are chargeable and can be decided as per individual preference. Must : Pick up print sketches of Goan lifestyle and culture by the famous Goan cartoonist Mario Miranda from the souvenir shop called Khazana. It was a perfect holiday experience. Even my 5 year old son went back to school refreshed.

Room Tip: Ask for sea facing cottage on the hill slope

My review comes very late as i joined Tripadvisor recently for a forthcoming travel research,so....to talk about Taj fort aguada,i was here for my honeymoon, our experience was very nice. The view from our room, the food, the staff all were very good. Not even a single moment we were unhappy with the services, the property itself is so big that one can spend enough time going around, only thing is that this property is not for the people who wish to enjoy on beach, but the beautiful views from ur room doesnt makes u regret to chose the stay here :) if one is travelling for honeymoon this Taj is perfect for them, since its very quiet and serene.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms with a attached terrace are fantastic.

Had seen fort aguada from the beach side, during my numerous visits to Goa. Had always wondered, how fab would it be to be staying inside. As the sea can never be legally closer.
Well rest of the properties are post independence and have to follow the coastal regulation zone binding of 500 mts or so. But the portuguese were the "regulators of the zone" and they were building a fort not a hotel. So when it comes to location - this property is tops. Sea literally crashes each second into your bed or easy chair. But beyond that - there is something amiss. From the moment one steps in - its not like an usual taj -pride property. The staff is attentive but just that. The rooms need major overhaul. ESP in monsoon, it's humid, and if one pushes the AC above 20 deg C then the floor gets a wet layer. Am sure sometime back some taj management guru sitting in Mumbai - not aware of the intricacies of Goa weather must have said - the carpets will smell - lets get tiles. Now they got rid of the musty carpet smell. But the tiles are cheap slippery shiny kinds, worst when they have water layer on them. Tell the housekeeping - and they will say - keep temp at 20 deg c or lower, it won't happen, so its freeze or slip. Interestingly renovation work is on - tho it was a discreet affair, I look a look to find that ttilt look tiles don't seem to be part of the "renovation". the bathrooms have a smell, the wash bowl is right out of an ancient non boutique era.i have a feeling that the gradation - palaces and resort, vivanta and gateway has led to a strange visible standardization in taj hotels, that leaves no room to improvise. Or simply it's an excuse for managers to never improvise. So if someone has stayed at taj Varanasi, nashik and aguada, nothing would be different. You can land up without curiosity. The curtains the cushions the everything is same, and behind this consistency there are slippages. When innovation goes, with it goes efficiency. So in our aguada room the curtain hooks had come off. The windows won't close, allowing more outside air pregnant with moisture inside. At the restaurants morning breakfast was an affair to remember, monsoon is no more the off seasons. So to manage crowds there were three breakfast buffet hubs in three restaurant, but hunt for space was endless and frustrating. This happens in most places In rush season or rush hour. But then there are escorts at the restaurant - smiling with your name ready in the greeting. They will tell you politely - may take ten minutes. Would you and the child like a glass of juice served at the pool chairs, No here it's a virtual free for all. Apart from the slightly indifferent housekeeping the staff and service is " standardized" taj or vivanta level not bad at all. But it lacks something. Maybe taj group is saying - this is the level of hospitality at the price you pay for vivanta. Go to palaces and resorts category - pay more - to get more,

Or maybe it's not planned,
It's just plain old inefficiency.

An excellent property with mesmerising sea views, grrt location, tons of greenery. the kind of place u like to visit again and again for the fantastic views it offers. The light sound of the waves crashing on the shore is like music to the ears and the vast expanse of water can be enjoyed from the property itself, it is as if u r sitting right on the beach but the view is better because of altitude. The property is on hilly area and and u r ferried around in cars. We hv been to the property before but this time I was unhappy with the housekeeping services. We found rotten apple behind bed ,mushroom growth in the room which was not cleaned even after the 1st day room cleaning,I have photographs of the same so does housekeeping associate,i am surprised how they got award from TRIP ADVISOR 2012.

Room Tip: Stay Only the block facing sea

How to mess up on a good thing. Meet the masters at the Taj Aguada. It is sad to see a good hotel being run into the ground. I have stayed at the Aguada/Taj Village on numerous occasions, and have progressively see standards fall. From the moment you step in you sense this don't give a damn attitude, and this is reflected through out the hotel. After having experienced the glory days of the Taj, you feel like you have arrived at a B grade hotel. The quality of housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. I do not think that there is any proper supervision.
Restaurants across the board served mediocre food. Some of the food was pretty unpalatable. I could have been eating the same thing in a B grade diner anywhere in India. Do they care? I don't think so.
This hotel is being run like a listless ship floating in the ocean, going no where. Would I come back again? NO. I think are many new hotels in Goa that can give you far more value for your money and a better holiday experience. As a die hard loyal Taj fan. It is time to say good bye and move on.
