“A hotel with great service”
Reviewed February 5, 2012

Having just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. The hotel is set in wonderful gardens and along with it's sister resort provide a wide range of services. The staff are absolutely wonderful, everyone from the waitng staff, the pool staff, the housekeeping staff, in fact we used to phone for an ice bucket in the evening to have a pre-dinner drink after few days they turned up without prompting. I would like to make special mention about the security staff as I have never come across a more polite and friendly people.

On the negative the price of any extras is high, when you consider the costs outside.

Tip: Use the taxis outside the gate, but be aware on longer trips there is a differnt price if you want the aircon on so open the winos

After a really stressful journey into Goa (flight to Mumbai, delayed internal flight to Goa, 80 minute coach to resort) the calmness and serenity of this resort is what struck me first. Quiet, calm, lots of staff on hand, sound of the sea - just as well, considering my stress levels from the journey! The lobby (important to me and my family as the first impression) establishes the hotel as having character and not your standard corporate chain (Marriott, Hyatt, etc) and this was a very welcome change. It has the ambience and charm of an old European colonial hotel or staging post. Some sympathetic art and artefacts reflecting the romantic Portuguese 'Age of Discovery' period of the 15th Century. You can feel the presence of the great explorer Vasco de Gama (who was also once the Governor of Portuguese India!)! This might be due to the fantastic muriel on the wall of the staircase going down to the pool and restaurant. Also, the hotel is set in an old fortress area with a bastion jutting out to sea. The room was a fabulously spacious suite with huge terrace overlooking the grass area and the sea. The restaurant was limited but with a wealth of fantastic dining options within a taxi ride this really isn't a problem. The pool is small and rather basic. The beach is also fairly limited and not as pretty/idyllic as your Seychelles, Phuket, etc but, again, there are plenty of other uniques in this resort and area to make up for this. The food in this region is totally fabulous and there is lot's of good value to be had. All of this said, I probably would not return for these simple reasons; the pain and stress of getting here logistically means I personally would definitely stick with the resorts of South East Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia). However, if you can handle the journey, this is a very different experience with a unique Portuguese/European/Indian/Tropical feel to it and I would recommend a visit (subject to the logistics!).

Just back from a lovely vacation at Taj Fort Aguada.
First on the hotel - its an old property so looks bit dated in some areas but still beautiful, the lobby is old-world and very charming with amazing views of the never ending beach. Pool is nice enough and restaurants are good. We had a room called 'Premium Indulgence Cottage' which was up on a hill, it was a spacious room, beautifully decorated, and a lovely huge bathroom, all looked recently renovated. There was some sort of musty smell in the room but it was promptly dealt with.
Then the staff - every person we dealt with was excellent - courteous, prompt and helpful. Whether the smiling waiters or the guys at the pool who come around with chilled water and ice cold cut fruits (all complimentary), or the people at the reception/concierge. Housekeeping seemed to be cleaning the room/bathroom twice a day which I havent really seen at other hotels.
The hotel has no direct beach access (there is a tiny-ish beach outside the hotel but thats quite dirty), but that was no problem, we just took their complimentary car service to Taj Holiday village and from there went down to the beach.
The goan food at the coffee shop was awesome. The breakfast was the usual buffet one with quite extensive choices.
All in all, a wonderful hotel with excellent staff.

Room Tip: Either take a Premium Indulgence cottage or a sea view 1st/2nd floor room

This was my second visit here. The location is amazing overlooking the Aguada beach & the historic fort.
I stayed in a hill top villa & the landscaping is truly beautiful. Sunset point is breath taking.
The only thing they need to do is ramp up the rooms interiors to the contemporary style. The new villas that are coming up looks very stylish & urban.
The best part is that even if you are staying at the fort you can experience the facilities of Holiday village the floating bar here is too sexy.
Food is good; must try prawn balchao & their Danish pastries...awsum!!!!
Staff is hospitable & nice.

All in all this is my favorite place is Goa, totally recommended.

Room Tip: the new villas

Great view of the water and you can hear the waves from every corner of the hotel.
Excellent food...
Service: Good. But stops short of the usual Taj service.
Baga beach and other buzzing places about 20 min drive...
Did not venture into the adjoining holiday village...which i hear works well for families with kids.
It's a dated property and the bed/mattress was probably too old and had served it's time. Not very comfy to sleep on...and woke up with a sore back. However, my friends did not have any such complain.
Overall, nice place...

Lovely hotel pure luxury for a very good price. Stayed with daughter, patents, sister and her new husband.
Staff couldn't do enough for you.
Pool lovely.
All restaurants served really good food.
Would recommend for everyone.
Only downside is taxis taking you into the main area will charge you double as they know you are staying at the Taj.
