I certainly did not regret choosing to stay the night in Hotel Weisses Lamm (or in St Veit itself). The hotel occupies a historical building on the large, elongated, and pedestrianized main square of Carinthia's original capital (and the best base for visiting Hochosterwitz Castle); the compact room opening onto an arcaded inner courtyard was fine; and the restaurant's "three-kinds-of-Carinthian-ravioli" dish was excellent. But management seemed to be a little lax, e.g., the courtyard featured on the hotel's website looked neglected (and empty); trying to reach the hotel by car proved a challenge (as did nearby parking), unless one ignored the "no motor vehicles" signs; and the only employee I encountered, a friendly young lady from a neighboring country, was not authorized to operate the credit card machine - and had to hunt down the (invisible) manager even to make change. But overall, a good place to stay (especially for those who find the truly bizarre appearance of the rival Fuchspalast Hotel simply too off-putting).
