“Gorgeous villa in a stellar location”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We stayed at Chiesa Del Carmine for a week with another family and friends. Arriving jetlagged from HK, the property was truly an oasis. I was very grateful that the fridge and cupboards had staples provided which made the need to get to the shops less urgent. Over the week we spent hours at the gorgeous pool, watched the Wimbledon final in the church - amazing - visited Assisi, Gubio and Orvieto and enjoyed Umbria Jazz. All of that plus beautiful accommodation, local walks, great food (including the house garden) and wine had us planning the next visit. This place is ideal for large groups of family or friends because there is so much space. It has been modernised in a sensitive way, and aesthetically really is beautiful. A wedding in the church would be very special. Our only regret was that inclement weather meant the truffle hunt was called off - oh well next time!

“The perfect retreat for rest, relaxation and recharging”
Reviewed July 2, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Its hard to do justice to somewhere this special with only a few words but i'll have a good go. Chiesa Del Carmine is a rare thing, neither photos, nor anything I or anybody else writes can do it justice.

Nestled in the middle of a secluded and luscious valley in Umbria (The Green Heart of Italy), the property is made up of two equally beautiful buildings, all surrounded by vines, olive trees and a recently planted truffle wood. The main communal space at Carmine (a large living room, dining area & kitchen) is situated in a gorgeously converted 11th century chapel whilst a similarly characterful farmhouse has beds to sleep 14 people. Each room has its own distinct and individual character and furnishings whilst there is a pleasing continuity of style that runs throughout. The finish on everything be it doors, showers, beds or window shutters is of the highest quality. Special mention must be given to my mattress which was without doubt one of the most comfortable I have slept on.

The space surrounding the villa is just as stunning if not more so than the finely crafted interiors. There are several different small private seating areas, as well as large tables at which everyone can gather. There is also a herb, fruit and vegitable garden provided for guests to use and enjoy. Food and drink makes up a big part of what is so special about this region of Italy and Carmine reflects that brilliantly.

The pool is glorious, and can be heated, though when I was there it was more than warm enough, and is another space that is perfectly suited to provide a large group of friends or family with the perfect space to enjoy some time away.

Carmine is a joy, a quiet and welcoming home away from home that accepts and relaxes you instantly. Chrissie and David (who manage the property) are very helpful, never more than a call away they are always there to help or make suggestions on what to do in the local area and beyond.

In short Carmine is a delight, and I certainly hope to be going back very soon.

“Something special - Peace and comfort in a beautifully restored medieval church”
Reviewed April 8, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

I stayed here this Spring, with family, including children (9 -11 years old). We loved the mixture of history and luxurious comfort. Great for long walks in the countryside and visits to the medieval towns nearby. Ideal for groups of friends or families who want to rest, eat and spend quality time together.

“11th century church restored to offer modern, boutique hotel, luxury”
Reviewed April 8, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

If you are torn between staying in a historical/period property but want the comfort and luxury (not to mention contemporary design) of a boutique hotel, this is the place for you. The property is split across 2 buildings:
The 11th century church provides a breathtaking living, kitchen and dining space (including grand piano and in home cinema). The kitchen is fully equipped for the most passionate chefs (we actually arranged caterers to cook for us as well one night) including American-style fridge freezer, dishwasher, range cooker etc.
The farmhouse provides two story sleeping arrangements (the majority of the rooms have en suite luxury walk-in marble showers) and one of the rooms has a spectacular freestanding bath with views across the garden and countryside - its deep so allow 20-30 mins to draw a bath but god its worth it. There's also a living space and kitchenette in addition to the main 'entertaining space'.
The buildings are split by 2-3 meters but despite our original reservations the set up actually really worked for us, particularly as a couple of our party stay up and rise later than the others so nobody was disturbed by different sleeping habits.
We're already talking about booking again for a birthday treat and I've recommended to a friend for their wedding as it would be perfect. Chrissie looks after the place - we were the first people to stay there and she lives literally 2 minutes away and couldn't have been more helpful.
Amazing place - didn't want to leave.
