Santa Chiara
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We've been lucky enough to visit Santa Chiara before but this was the first time we have been since we had our son. What we wouldn't have realised on our previous visits was that it is an ideal place to bring a young child for their first holiday away. As per usual, Paul and Anita were the perfect hosts and they had all the necessary equipment to make it safe and entertaining for our 2 year old. Everything from bed guards to Thomas DVDs!
The swimming pool is a great place for a little one to gain confidence and Anita's cooking is so good that you don't need to ever leave Santa Chiara!
We are already looking forward to our next visit!

We recently returned from a fabulous week at Santa Chiara and cannot add to the previous reviews. Whilst most people visit with their children we brought my aged 70 plus parents - we all had a great time. The weather was glorious, apartment was spotlessly clean and spacious, location and views simply stunning and the hospitality was second to none. Anita and Paul (and their children) are great hosts and really made such an effort to please their guests. We joined them at the local sports field to watch the Italy vs Spain final of the Euro cup and they also kindly hosted a BBQ for the guests on another evening. During our stay they provided us fresh eggs and figs from the garden. For those who enjoy cooking, the kitchen was well stocked and had all the equipment necessary to cook most meals. The Rancale apartment was ideal for two couples as each has their own bathroom. We have stayed in numerous self-catering apartments in Italy and this is the best by far. It will be hard to find another to match this level of quality.

Just returned from our week's holiday at Santa Chiara with a 5 month old and 2 1/2 year old....it was wonderful, and the key ingredient was most definately Anita and Paul's care of us - they radiate warmth, professionalism and genuine hospitality. Given the draconian restrictions of Ryanair's luggage policies (don't get me started!), Santa Chiara is an ideal destination for young families as everything you need is already there - bottle steriliser, baby monitor, cot bed and bedding, toys, books....Anita even kindly bought in for me a stock of nappies and baby wipes! We sampled Anita's cooking on the first night and it was delicious - the foccacia is divine, and it was great to not have to start cooking a meal from scratch after a long journey. The location is the stuff of postcards - an idyllic view from a spotlessly clean swimming pool, which we spent the entire week lounging around, and a breathtaking panaroma from our terrace which we dined out on for breakfast, lunch and supper. We stayed in the top apartment which was ideal for bambini siestas as the windows could be seen (and heard!) directly from the pool so my husband and I could go for a dip whilst knowing the kids were safely asleep. Bella and Sandro are gorgeous playmates for young guests - Bella even helped me out with potty training my little girl....their hospitality know no ends! My husband and I have returned feeling refreshed and relaxed - not always an easy thing to achieve when you have a young family.....so thank you so much, all of you at Santa Chiara, for our fabulous, fun filled holiday!

We went to stay in Santa Chiara for 1 week at the same time of the previous reviewers! So a lot has been said that I can just repeat here(location/ home cooking). We were on our honeymoon with our 2 year old and came travelling from Tuscany (Chianti, Radda) and it was a most beautiful drive to Santa Chiara ( but dont forget to bring the directions like we did!) We stayed in the smaller Pietramelina apartment, which was perfect for the three of us. The things we loved: to find nice children books on the shelf which we read all week long, the terrace to eat outside, the swing/slide at the back of the house, then the pool with a safe play area next to it. The joy of meeting other families and hosts Paul and Anita and the kids were just so welcoming and friendly. The only thing I missed slightly, was a black out curtain that would make the bedroom/living room dark for sleeping. Places we enjoyed visiting: nearby medieval Gubbio and lake Trasimeno. The hosts have a handy guidebook with many other great places to visit. But to be honest we were happy to relax around the house and pool and our toddler happy with seeing the nearby farm/tractors! This was the first time ever we saw the magic of fireflies and heard the roar of wild boars in the far away woods....We thought this place would also be really nice when you want a holiday with friends or family and rent 2 or 3 apartments. So yes, we surely recommend this to any family!! A big thank you to the hosts!

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Santa Chiara. Paul and Anita are very kind and thoughtful hosts. Their children Bella and Sandro are also very charming. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Anita's home cooking was delicious and I am hoping she will send through the recipes shortly and I will endeavour to try and duplicate them! We stayed at the Rancale and it had all the basics for a toddler, however, if you are (like us) taking a young baby you may want to take some of your own plastic bowls, cups and spoons as we found the baby feeding equipment was more geared up for a toddler rather than a weaning baby, but that is a very personal preference and by no means a criticism. Our son loved the paddling pool, the swing and the fresh eggs. We loved the beautiful views, the company, the wine (that you can buy from Anita and Paul) and the olive oil (which you can also buy to take home!). Cannot recommend Santa Chiara enough. Thank you Anita and Paul.

Just returned from a week's holiday at Santa Chiara - our only complaint is that it we didn't book for 2 weeks! It was a perfect base to sample and explore Umbria. Paul, Anita, Isabella and Sandro made us all feel so welcome - we didn't want to leave. A fabulous location, comfortable and well equipped apartment with a wonderful terrace (we stayed on the top floor), superb pool (which the kids (both aged 7) loved), delicious home cooked meals freshly prepared by Anita and amazing views. All topped off with plenty of stargazing and firefly watching - what more could we ask for! Grazie mille and we hope to return some day soon. PS Would thoroughly recommend Santa Chiara's own olive oil too - we happily drizzled it over our salad every night.

Santa Chiara really is a fantastic place to holiday with a young baby. We took our 18 month old there and he (and we!) had an amazing stay. The location is stunning and Paul and Anita are unbelievably generous and supportive hosts. We made the most of Anita's fantastic cooking, the baby sitting service for a night out in nearby Montone, the fresh eggs, their restaurant recommendations and all round local knowledge. We didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. For our little boy, there was everything he could possibly need - lots of toys, sandpit, paddling pool, wendy house, trike, slide, swings etc and all the necessary boring things like high chairs, changing mat, pushchair and baby backpack. We were already planning our return trip after our second day there, so we can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: We stayed in Rancale, which we really liked. Especially as when our in-laws came joined us, they sta...
