Wyndford Holiday Farm
Reviewed September 29, 2013

We have had numerous family holidays at Wyndford and they have all been memorable times. Full board, no cell reception which is a blessing, and a beautiful setting. George and Lindy who own the place are a delight and the rest of the staff are great.

Real old fashioned family holiday, with walks, abseiling, horse riding etc.

We have always wanted to visit Katse Dam and this seemed to be a very convenient place to be based. What a great decision! When we drove in, we felt as if we were in a time warp - the old fashioned family type of guest farm which we did not even know existed still, with thatched, stone cottages, bigger family units and white washed rondawels scattered around the garden. We were there during the school holidays and all the children were having a great time safely cycling around, playing with the variety of farm animals of simply having fun in the garden while parents were able to relax. The food was simple and well cooked, served with a smile. There are 18 different walks, so much to keep us happy as we explored the area - beautiful views and unbelievable vistas. Management were always around and on hand, taking a genuine interest in their guests. Their is also a beauty salon which seemed very popular as well as a coffee shop with wifi. They do not have a liquor licence but guests are welcome to bring their own drinks, which adds to the affordability of Wyndford. I never thought I would be able to relax as much as I did - we came backhome wishing we could have stayed longer.

Katse Dam is a days trip and we were given a delicious packed lunch to take. There is not much when you get there but the incredible drive and breathless views make it worth while. Such a pity that the Lesotho tourism department do not make more of the area (such as local crafts, picnic sites and food outlets) which would result in much needed employment and generate income for the mainly subsistence farming communities. All we contributed to their economy was the R30 road tax which we felt very sad about. .

Room Tip: The extra tariff for a luxury room is well worth it - we had a separate lounge with a TV, a fridge...

This Hotel is set on the border of Lesotho in the foothills of mountains in very nice settings.
When you arrive you feel like being in an english garden complex and that is how it is run.
3 time breakfast, lunch and supper , plus early morning tea, before lunch tea and afternoon tea.

We used this as a pre or post relaxing place not too far from the Johannesburg Airport (330Km)
to either recover or prepare from or for a long flight.

We came here first time two years ago and it was a kind of real relaxing place in a beautifull setting with good attention from the people who run the Holiday Farm.

This time we came after our arrival in February and again in March 2013.

Unfortenately, perhaps good for the owner, the place was packed with people. The food gave the impression that it was not quiet the same good quality as it used to be and it seemed that the owner had decided to fill his place by attracting "bus-loads" of very old retirees.

Now, we have definitely nothing against old age people but who wants to spend a vacation in an old age home, contributing your own wish for a preferred cottage to the need, (how can i fill the place with the maximum of people), of the owner?.
Also the 3 times, on the table, with meaningless small talks gets boring.

Our suggestion, take good care of your reservation if you want to enjoy this place as a hide- away !

Room Tip: Some of the cottages are nice, rather quiet, well but simple equipped. If you get the "Firs-cot...

We have been going to Wyndford for over 10 years, about one to two times a year. It is very well priced all meals included, fantastic staff who really make you stay feel like you are at home. Fantastic surrounds, hikes, house rides and activities to keep you occupied through out the day.
Will be going again soon.

After our visit 6 months ago we were looking forward to our Dec visit. Not to be disappointed we had an excellent stay in Deodar lodge on the farm. The staff , food and all activities were well planned. The horse rides were excellent and the groomsmen have a good sense of humor with the kids.. They have since now added a small coffee room and spa. Barister is still learning to make the best cappuccino in the Free State. Granted he only started this week. Spa is more of a aromatherapy set up, so the wife states. Pool will need serious upgrade this next season.

Room Tip: Depending on your needs. The family style lodges are perfect for 4.there are only 2 of them.
