“A Very Sepcial Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2011

This really is a very special place. Maria, the owner, met us from the ferry and took us to our room which was very clean and spacious. We were offered homemade lemonade and, as it was Sunday, traditional chickpea stew - delicious! The studios/apartments are set in beautiful terraced gardens - lots lof lovely pots of plants and many little corners to sit and relax. Great views to the sea and countryside. Maria was always on hand to give ideas of where to go and what to see - her English was fantastic! Her family run a restaurant in Kastro, Leonidas, which has the best food we had in all the islands we visited. Well worth a visit. If you have a car and get the chance take a trip to the northern tip of the island to Heronissos and have breakfast on the beach at Ammoudia Taverna - just perfect! This is a lovely place to stay and Maria makes it even more special. We won't hesitate to go back and thoroughly recommend it.

Sifnaika Konakia is not your typical hotel complex - instead it is a cluster of attractive, spacious (and very clean) studios and rooms, spread around relaxing hotel grounds, full of little corners, terraces, outdoor dining and cooking areas in which to unwind, read a book & soak up the sun's rays.

For all the hotel's significant appeal, Maria, (the hotelier), is surely the biggest selling point. Welcoming, accommodating, bubbly and polite, she was full of great suggestions for our stay: places to visit; things to do; food to try. She provided us with a really personal experience, making us feel right at home from the minute she met us off our ferry into Sifnos, to the second she dropped us back there at the end of our visit. Her complimentary traditional chickpea soup (served on Sundays in the outdoor kitchen area) was simply delicious.

Whilst the port of Kamares, dominated by steep hills on two sides and the sea on a third, makes for a pleasant and convenient location to base one's self, the island is well worth exploring further. Visits to Apollonia, Artemonas, Kastro and Chrisopigi were particularly enjoyable, and were easily arranged thanks the comfortable island bus service (which stops right outside Sifnaika Konakia).

This island, and more specifically, this hotel is a true gem!

a very stylish complex with many seatings and little trees everywhere, wonderfull breakfast with everything you want, clean, nice extra services like e.g. transfer or laundry (for 6€ but for us as backpackers, this was perfect), location quite okay (but to see the island, you need a vehicle nevertheless, which can be rent very near)

Sifnaika Konakia is a complex of rooms, and way more than that: You get the feeling ofhaving visited a family member from scratch.
The rooms are 500m from Sifnos Port, in Kamares. Good location to see the island -which isn't big anyway. The complex itself has got nice gardens, terraces, a cafe, a taverna, and really feels like a
Maria, the owner, is very helpful, pleasant and hospitable. She offered to pick us up from the Port, gave us advice on restaurants and sightseeing, and catered for everything we asked in a friendly yet professional and discrete way.

We were booked here for four nights but due to a ferry cancellation we could only stay three as we had to meet a friend on Paros and needed to leave a day earlier to make a connection through another island. The studio apartment we stayed in was perfect for us. It had a comfortable bed and a wonderful homely feel to the place. The bathroom is quite small which is something we encountered in quite a few places we stayed at in the Greek Islands and we coped with this without any problems. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony and admiring the lovely view down to Kamares or up to the churches on the hills around and above us. It was a perfect location to explore Sifnos from and a lovely quiet retreat to return to at the end of the day. We hired a car to tour the island by day, stopping to walk around historical Kastro, driving to the beautiful bays and up mountains to see the expansive views from the top. We could walk 5-10 minutes into Kamares for our dinner and there was a good selection of restaurants to chose from even at this time of year. But the best part of our stay was the wonderful hospitality provided by Maria and her staff. She is very welcoming and a joy to be around. She provided useful information about Sifnos and was a wonderful hostess. She went out of her way to make us feel at home, the breakfast in the traditionally decorated dining room was delightful with a good variety of European breakfast faire and Maria even gave us one of her home cooked desserts to sample (we saved this for later in the day and enjoyed it as an after dinner treat - it was delicious). She takes great pride in the property and its gardens and decor reflect her taste and traditional style. I hope one day to return to Sifnos and would once again stay at this charming establishment.

We stayed at Maria's place for 5 nights in mid-Oct. 2010.

It was perfect . . . not a hotel, but a stand-alone building with a small, but clean, efficient room. Great deck & patios overlooking mountains and the bay. We were a 10 minute walk from "downtown" but the location felt as if you were in the country with a sheep/goat farm just below the accommodation.

Maria was friendly & helpful. When we found out the local laundromat was closed she washed our clothes for us. She picked us up at the travel agent in town then drove us back to the port.

She refused to accept a tip because said we were family.

And we were!

I highly recommend Sifnaika Konakia on the island of Sifnos, one of the best of the Cyclades, still relatively undeveloped, small, and full of friendly Greeks!

Yassis!

A very peaceful & relaxing place to stay. The location is within walking distance of the beach, town & ferry. The rooms are very clean & comfortable with excellent views. Everybody very friendly & helpful. Facilities are excellent with terraces for sunbathing or sitting in the shade. Would definitely visit here again.
